Update from Derek Beddows on Running For Chairman of NSODC

Friends, Colleagues, Contacts.

Many thanks from myself for all of the really overwhelming comments and messages of support and encouragement following the announcement that I was putting myself forward for the position of Chairman of the North Sea Operators Diving Committee. Having been a previous Vice Chair of the Committee during my BP years and being passionate about Commercial Diver Safety it was a logical step to take.

However, the Group has now decided not to seek a new Chairman and stay with the existing arrangements, so I shall look forward to continuing with the provision of support to the Committee as I have since 2009. Garson Miller has now decided to stay on and I wish him every success going forward.

Every scenario has a positive if you look hard enough and the positive here is that this will allow me to focus on my role as Director of Diving Safety & Services at Archer Knight (Holdings) Limited . Working closely with Michael Watson , David Sheret , Lynne Paterson and the whole team, we are committed to delivering bespoke Diving Safety Management Systems for Clients. I find these opportunities really satisfying and it allows me to remain firmly engaged with continuous commercial diving safety improvements.

No diver should ever go to work at the start of a shift and not complete that shift safely and return home to their family. If the creation of up-to-date Diving Management Systems and continuous diver safety improvements helps to prevent just one critical injury to a diver, as happened to my Son, Lewis, then that work is entirely justified.

Finally, thanks as always to those of you who continue to send your best wishes to Lewis. It is hugely appreciated and a constant source of strength for him, and myself.
