UPDATE: 5.2 mil Ford Vehicles Contain Graphene
This article was originally published in the Nixene Journal, Volume 5, Issue 3, 2021.
Typically, when Nixene Publishing refers to how many Ford vehicles have been produced containing graphene components, a total of 1 million cars on the road is stated.
With the production delays due to Covid, typical car release date delays occurred as well as changes, like the Ford Focus was dropped from the 2021 line due to slow sales in the previous year. [1] The biggest change is the 2021 vehicles have not arrived at dealerships yet.
Given this information regarding the distribution system which occurs between manufacturer and dealerships, it became apparent the statistics needed to be closely examined.
Cars.com reports, “Federal regulations allow manufacturers to sell vehicles for a given model year as early as January of the prior calendar year. That means that?shortly after the ball drops to signal New Year’s Day 2021, manufacturers can start selling 2022 models.” [2]
Looking back at the American Graphene Summit in Washington, DC, May 2019, Debbie Mielewski, then Senior Technical Leader, Ford Motor Company Research, gave a presentation at the Russell Senate Building providing news and statistics on graphene in Ford products. She said the 2019 F-150 trucks and Mustangs contained graphene.
Although this information was published on the Ford website in October of 2018, Mielewski personally delivered the message to Capitol Hill, representing the successful application of graphene. Ford remains the only early adopter of graphene in automotive manufacturing. We have heard rumors other auto manufacturers are likely researching graphene applications and will update as facts emerge.
Conclusively, the 2019 models had been released in 2018. By year end, worldwide sales reported nearly a million Fords sold containing graphene: 72,489 Mustangs and 900,000 F-150 trucks. [3]?
However, the use of graphene did not stop there. In fact, applications have expanded and increased considerably. During 2019, the 2020 models arrived on car dealership lots, as they do every year. We learned at year end that all 2020 models contain graphene components.
“In 2020, the Ford Motor Company sold about 4.2 million vehicles to dealers and distributors worldwide.” [4]??All models contained graphene components. The North American market alone contributed about two million units to this wholesale volume.?

The 1 million Fords with graphene should have been at least doubled considering North America 2020 stats alone, but the accurate count is over 5.2 million Ford vehicles worldwide which contain graphene components.
We do not know yet whether the 2022 models will come out in Summer 2021.?There is a rumor Ford cancelled its entire line except 2 models, claiming to shift focus on producing EV’s for the 2023 line. [5] ?
We will be speaking with Ford in early 2021 and will ‘Go Further’ with this story as permissible.
