According to the World Meteorological Organization , 2023 marked a critical juncture, surpassing climate records, and is on track to breach the 1.4°C warming mark. This alarming reality underscores the pressing need to curb fossil fuel production and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the escalating climate change threats we already face. However, UNEP 2023 Gap Reports expose a consistent and dangerous discrepancy between promises and actions.
The Loss and Damage Fund was operationalised at COP28 and efforts are currently underway to set up the Board and convene its first meeting. The main concern now lies in getting funds flowing to vulnerable communities already facing loss and damage.
