Upcoming Conversations to Innovate and Learn from Each Other: #Data4Good, Analytics, and Public Policy

Update 9/10/18: Due to Hurricane Florence, Wanda Marino unfortunately will not be able to join us at Analytics Experience. Some session times have been adjusted (changes reflected below).

Earlier today, we had an engaging #SASChat, talking about the how curiosity and innovation are core to moving technology and our communities forward. If you missed it, here’s a recap.

In just over a week, a lot of us will be heading to San Diego for Analytics Experience to further talk about how curiosity and innovation can improve our world. Data for good will also be a hot topic! The past two years, I got to present at this conference on behalf of San Bernardino County (here’s my presentation and interview from two years ago). What I have loved about it is the excellent opportunities to have in-depth conversations with people and apply new, innovative ideas to our work in the public healthcare sector.

Health Analytics Empowers Public Policy

In that spirit, we're excited to start Monday (September 17, 10am in Harbor Ballroom G) with a panel discussion. I’ll be moderating this discussion with two of our public sector healthcare breakout speakers, Claudia Montes and Rebecca Comrie. They represent national and international voices, including local and state perspectives, plus they are a great example of the power of women in analytics! We’ll be discussing how analytics and data can be used for good to empower and inform public policy, especially when we can start looking at things more holistically and from a systems perspective.

Data for Whole Person Good

After Claudia's breakout session, please join us for a special session I'm hosting, Analytics in Action: Answering Vital Operational and Policy Questions, at 12:45pm in Old Town A. This interactive session will explore practical applications of analytics to identify increasingly effective ways to answer the following common health care questions, especially when attempting to approach care and systems from a whole person perspective, such as:

  1. Who do we need to intervene with?
  2. How do I evaluate the efficacy of my program?

Please let me know if you’ll be at Analytics Experience and want to attend this special session, so I can send you an invitation (it won't be on the main schedule, but all are welcome)!

Stick around on Monday, as there will be a main stage presentation that day about the Healthy Nevada project (and a breakout on the project the next day). Don't forget Rebecca’s presentation that afternoon. And that’s just day one!

Some of these sessions will be live-streamed for free, although being there in person is always better to actually engage in the conversation. Group registration rates are still available, ending September 11, so there's time to join! Don't forget that executives, senior leaders, and students can also register for free.

If you can’t make it to Analytics Experience, let me know if you’ll be at the Community Health Association Inland Southern Region 6th Biennial Symposium the following week. I’ll be doing the opening plenary, followed by the California Attorney General, Xavier Becerra!
