Up Your Game

Up Your Game

Life is a team sport, you will never win the game alone.

You will never get where you're going without the help of others, you are standing on the shoulders of others now.

You will win and you will lose and you will learn.

You know, my favorite sporting moment was actually as a coach of Zoe's netball team in primary or elementary school, the school had no history doing well in netball when I took them on.

But this year we had an extraordinary team, not only talent, but in application and openness and trust and for the love of the game.

The girls trained on early mornings, like the athletes they were, they learned pushups and sprint drills and how to be fierce on defense and fearless on attack, they learned how to chase every single ball down, to guard the ball and my girls always won the toss.

They took on the personal development that I gave them, in terms of coaching, and for the last 10 minutes of every practice, we would let all the other kids around the school come on and join us in this huge bundle of fun, boys included, it was a riot.

The teachers would also come out and check it out and I will never forget this, that sound of joy and laughter.

And it was that team that took that energy on to win the inter-city tournament, several grades higher than they'd ever played before.

The proudest moment of my life was calling the principal, Dr. Anne Malcolm, and telling her that not only we had won, but it was the way in which the girls had won.

So my question to you is, how are you winning?

Three tips to up your game.

1. Get as many good team members as you can on your team. Good people, those that have your back, those that push you, call you out, buff you into the diamond that you are.

2. Then go up against a formidable foe, things that you want to change in the world, these are activist times. These are times to dig deep and live out loud, stand in the difference you are here to make.

3. Get some great sponsorship. Partner with people and brands who can help tell your story better and to move people and evolve that story, rewrite the ending, and make it bold.

The time is now, spin your magic.

LET’S GO!
