Helicopters Missing in Russia and Crashed in Portugal
Two separate helicopter incidents have resulted in significant loss of life and ongoing search efforts. In Russia's Kamchatka region, a Mil Mi-8 helicopter carrying 22 people, including 19 tourists, went missing during a flight from Vakhkazhets volcano to Nikolaevka and is assumed to have crashed. The aircraft, operated by Vityaz Aero, failed to make contact at the scheduled time, prompting the launch of another Mi-8 helicopter for search operations. In Portugal, a Eurocopter AS 350B3 Ecureuil involved in firefighting operations crashed into the Douro River near Samod?es. The helicopter was operated by HTA Helicopters and there were six occupants on board. Four have been confirmed dead, one person survived with minor injuries, and one individual is still missing. The aircraft was part of efforts to combat a rural fire in the Bai?o region. Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities investigating the causes of both incidents.

MAK Releases Preliminary Report on Gazpromavia SU95 Crash Near Moscow
The Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) has released a preliminary report on the July 12, 2024, crash of a Gazpromavia Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 near Moscow, Russia, following its first flight after major maintenance. The report highlights repeated "NAV ADS DISAGREE" and "SPEED DISAGREE" messages, unreliable airspeed indications, and malfunctioning angle of attack sensors as key factors leading to the aircraft's descent and subsequent crash, killing all three crew members. Immediate safety actions include ensuring correct installation of AoA sensors and preparing a bulletin for pilots to address stall protection activations due to erroneous AoA data. Boeing CEO Meets with FAA Amid Regulatory Challenges
Boeing's new CEO, Kelly Ortberg, met with FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker this week to discuss the company's safety and quality plans, as Boeing faces heightened regulatory scrutiny. Ortberg, who assumed the role on August 8, emphasized a culture change focused on employee empowerment and issue resolution. This meeting comes as the FAA maintains an increased on-site presence at Boeing and its supplier Spirit Aerosystems, following a January 5 incident where a door panel failure on a 737 MAX led to restrictions on production increases. SARPcheck global aviation safety audit: A wet lease, codeshare, ACMI Booster
SARPcheck is a new global aviation safety audit that assesses airline compliance with select ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) across defined ICAO Annexes. The primary aim of this audit is to enhance global flight safety while providing an affordable and accessible tool to facilitate ACMI, wet lease, and codeshare operations. The ICAO Annexes and SARPs that SARPcheck focuses on are specifically those outlined by regulatory and industry standards, including FAA requirements for overseeing foreign air carriers and the TCO approval elements of EASA.
SARPcheck is governed by a London-based not-for-profit organization, the Safety Audit Review Partnership (SARP Ltd.), which accredits Safety Quality Organizations (SQOs) such as AEROTHRIVE, Aviation Quality Services and WAKE (QA) LIMITED to conduct these audits globally. Detailed information about the program, including the SARPcheck Program Manual (SCPM), informative brochures, and the latest updates, is available on our website at www.SARP.org. For further inquiries or personal assistance, please feel free to send me a message. I'm always happy to help! Lufthansa City Airlines is the global launch customer of SARPcheck.

2 个月Author: Laurence Gonzales Title: “Flight 232” As hundreds of rescue workers waited on the ground, United Airlines Flight 232 wallowed drunkenly over the bluffs northwest of Sioux City. The plane slammed onto the runway and burst into a vast fireball. The rescuers didn't move at first: nobody could possibly survive that crash. And then people began emerging from the summer corn that lined the runways. Miraculously, 184 of 296 passengers lived. No one has ever attempted the complete reconstruction of a crash of this magnitude. Drawing on interviews with hundreds of survivors, crew, and airport and rescue personnel, Laurence Gonzales, a commercial pilot himself, captures, minute by minute, the harrowing journey of pilots flying a plane with no controls and flight attendants keeping their calm in the face of certain death. He plumbs the hearts and minds of passengers as they pray, bargain with God, plot their strategies for survival, and sacrifice themselves to save others. An unforgettable drama of the triumph of heroism over tragedy and human ingenuity over technological breakdown, Flight 232 is a masterpiece in the tradition of the greatest aviation stories ever told.
