Unwind and Heal

Discover the soothing and therapeutic power of collage-making this week. Collaging is unique way to express emotions, create narratives, and find inner peace. Where fragmented pieces can come together to form something beautiful and resilient.

Before we begin, let's prepare ourselves for this creative journey. Start with a deep breathing exercise. Inhale slowly through your nose. Hold for a moment, then exhale through your mouth. Let go of any stress or tension.

The objective of this activity is to illustrate your pain, tension, or anxiety on one half of the paper. While the other side, illustrate the feeling of relief from these emotions.

Materials Needed

  • A large piece of paper
  • Old magazines, newspapers, or scrap paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or adhesive
  • Optional: Paints or markers for decoration

Directions

  1. Lay out your large piece of paper and fold it in half.
  2. Find images or words to represent your pain, tension, or anxiety.
  3. On one half of the paper, arrange and glue these pieces to illustrate your current feelings.
  4. Take a moment to consider what brings you relief from these feelings.
  5. Now, collect images, words, or shapes that symbolize your sense of relief.
  6. On the other half of the paper, arrange and glue these pieces to illustrate the feeling of relief.
  7. Use paints or markers to enhance your collage, if desired.
  8. Step back to view the transformation.

Estimated Time: 30 to 45 minutes.

  • Take a moment to reflect on the experience of creating your collage.
  • How did it feel to express your pain, tension, or anxiety on one side?
  • How did feel to express your feeling of relief?
  • Consider what might help you achieve relief in the future.
  • What strategies or actions could you use to move from pain to relief?

Decide what you'd like to do with your collage. Perhaps keep it as a reminder of your strength or share it with someone close.
