Vitamers?? What are those?? I asked the same thing!? In my 40 years of healthcare and nutrition courses, I had never heard of them!? Then, I thought, like many other people-Well….? I eat clean and ?I take a ?daily vitamin!? Isn’t that enough?? Evidently I could do better, and you can, too!?

We are all so busy these days!? It’s a fast-paced world!? Getting all the essential nutrients from our diet is more challenging than ever for ourselves and family. ?With soil depletion, processing methods, and modern agricultural practices, even the most health-conscious individuals are not getting all the nutrition they need from food alone. ??That is where the importance of Vitamers comes into play—a term you might not be familiar with like I was, but one that plays a critical role in optimizing your health.

You may be asking yourself, Well, why do my vitamins only have one form of each vitamin family?? Most multivitamins are synthetically made and typically contain only one form of each vitamin because it reduces manufacturing costs, ensures stability and longer shelf life, and simplifies labeling and consumer choice. It was always thought that Including multiple vitamers would increase complexity, cost, and pill size, which could deter consumers and complicate production.…… until now.? Isn’t scientific research an amazing thing?? Let’s begin to think differently and adopt current science.? Let’s learn about vitamers and why they are important!

Vitamers are the different chemical forms of a specific vitamin. Each vitamin can exist in multiple forms, which are collectively known as vitamers. For example, Vitamin B6 exists as pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine, each with its unique properties and benefits. Unlike regular vitamins that we might consume, vitamers can offer specific advantages depending on their form, making them a crucial component of a well-rounded diet.

How Do Vitamers Enhance My Nutrition?

1. ?Broader Nutritional Coverage:

Vitamers ensure that our bodies receive the full spectrum of benefits associated with a particular vitamin. While traditional vitamin supplements might provide just one form, incorporating multiple vitamers can enhance absorption and utilization in the body.

Thank you for the information. I had never heard of that term before although the concept is not new to me. It is so unfortunate that our food sources are so lacking and nutritional quality isn’t it?
