Unveiling the Heart of Your Franchise: Stories Behind the Scenes

When filming for a franchise brand, storytelling becomes crucial for engaging your audience and conveying the brand's values effectively. Here are five tips to evoke story during a filming day for a franchise brand:

1. Understand the Brand Narrative: Before the filming day, ensure that everyone involved, including the crew and talent, understands the brand's narrative, values, and messaging. Familiarize yourself with the franchise's backstory, mission, and unique selling points. This foundational understanding will guide the storytelling process and ensure consistency in conveying the brand's identity throughout the video content.

Our best tip: Don't let 50 people from corporate in the kitchen to craft this story. It'll come off robotic. Let the story naturally come out by asking questions.

2. Highlight Personal Stories: Humanize the franchise brand by highlighting personal stories that resonate with the audience. Whether it's the franchise owner's journey to success, employees' experiences, or customers' testimonials, personal narratives add authenticity and emotional depth to the storytelling. Capture genuine moments and emotions that showcase the human side of the franchise and foster a stronger connection with the audience.

Our best tip: Find the best ten emotional stories in your franchise. Fly them all to one city or have a film crew go around to various cities. Film the life of the franchisee outside of work as well - this is key!

3. Showcase Diversity and Community: Emphasize the diversity and community aspect of the franchise brand by featuring a range of voices and perspectives. Showcase franchise owners, employees, and customers from different backgrounds and demographics to reflect the brand's inclusive values. Highlight how the franchise brings people together, fosters relationships, and makes a positive impact on the community. Celebrate diversity as a strength and a source of unity within the franchise network.

Our best tip: Make sure to not show one type of person or background. Intentionally look for ways to diversify the stories so all prospects can relate to what they watch.

4. Utilize Visual Storytelling Techniques: Leverage visual storytelling techniques to enhance the narrative and captivate the audience's attention. Incorporate compelling visuals, such as cinematic shots, dynamic transitions, and engaging graphics, to convey key messages and evoke emotions. Pay attention to framing, lighting, and composition to create visually stunning scenes that reinforce the brand's story and leave a lasting impression on viewers.

Our best tip: For every interview you do, capture thirty (30) different shots or b-roll of them at work, at home and with their family. This will take 50% of the day and that's okay.

5. Focus on Authenticity and Transparency: Authenticity and transparency are essential for building trust and credibility with the audience. Avoid overly scripted or promotional content that feels inauthentic. Instead, prioritize genuine storytelling that reflects the real experiences and values of the franchise brand. Encourage spontaneity and authenticity during filming, allowing participants to speak from the heart and share their genuine thoughts and feelings. Be transparent about the brand's values, commitments, and impact to foster a sense of trust and connection with the audience.

Our best tip: Don't script a majority of the videos. The best stories come out by asking emotional based questions about their life and their happiness. It may be awkward, but go deeper and allow silence as the franchisee thinks about an answer (and might start to cry!)

By incorporating these tips into your filming day for a franchise brand, you can effectively evoke story, engage your audience, and showcase the unique identity and values of the franchise.

I have to say, Trevor Rappleye, CFE and the team made it easy to bring out a very natural presentation of our brand with authentic interviews of staff and franchisees. I was and am still very impressed with the work they have done.
