Unveiling the bigger picture: Why women's health is a workplace issue

In the conversation about workplace wellbeing, menopause has rightly gained attention. But if we focus only on menopause, we miss the bigger picture.
Women’s health across all life stages directly impacts organisations. Yet, too often, it’s addressed in silos, with short-term initiatives rather than long-term strategies.
This year's International Women’s Day theme, #AccelerateAction, is a call for real progress - not just conversations. And when it comes to workplace equity, women’s health must be part of the agenda.
The workplace impact: More than menopause
Hormonal changes don’t just influence menopause; they shape women’s health at every stage. Issues like stress, metabolic health, cardiovascular risks, and confidence dips affect performance, retention, and leadership potential. When left unsupported, the ripple effects are felt across teams and bottom lines.
A key stat from my recently published whitepaper on menopause and careers highlights this reality:
?? 1 in 4 women consider leaving their jobs due to menopause-related symptoms.
If we don’t create work environments that support women’s long-term health, we’ll continue to lose experienced talent, leadership diversity, and productivity. The global diversity, equality and inclusion we all want to see for future generations can only happen when we’re supporting and investing in women’s health.
What organisations can do now
To truly accelerate action, companies must move beyond awareness days and into tangible, sustained change. This means:
?? Embedding women's health into corporate wellbeing strategies
?? Equipping managers with education and confidence to support female employees
?? Moving from reactive to proactive solutions—before symptoms force women to step back
