Unusual July weather brings high winds to Northern Europe
Here’s one to cheer up those who’ve spent the summer holidays waiting for the weather to improve, as we certainly have at Boxkite .
We’d expect July to be a fairly quiet one in northern Europe, but this year has been different.?Across a band from Ireland to the Baltic, wind farms have had a great month.
The map here has been derived from ERA5 data, and shows wind speeds this July, compared to a normal July, in percent.?Blue colours are areas above normal, and orange below, in contour bands of 5% width.?Blue dominates as you can see, with plenty of the map showing more than 20% above typical wind speeds.
Some good news for operators with projects in the windy band, particularly after the low production seen by many in May and June this year.?Not so great for the beach…
