The Untold Story Our Podcast: From Gunshots to Mic Drops

"Everyone has a podcast these days—do we really need another one?" It's a fair question and one we've asked ourselves many times. But here’s the thing: podcasts have fundamentally changed the way people interact with ideas and information. They offer an intimate space for storytelling, for authentic conversations, and for making complex issues accessible. And there’s one discussion we believe is worth having, even if it means adding another voice to the podcast universe—the story of the development of the natural capital economy: the story of climate action, and collaboration.

Let’s again be especially honest: people are justifiably skeptical about businesses, especially those claiming to be part of the solution to climate change and biodiversity collapse. We understand and encourage that skepticism. There's no avoiding the fact that, as individuals and businesses, we contribute to the climate crisis—no matter how much we strive to limit our impact or compensate for our actions. And this is exactly why we're committed to radical transparency in everything we do. From our recruitment processes to our business model, from how we buy land, to what we hope and are able to do with it—our podcast is a platform to share what we think we know, what we know we don’t, and, most importantly, the mistakes we make along the way.?

We’re also passionate about collaboration. In our view, there’s no time, place or space for competitors in the natural capital space – the battle against climate change and the ticking clock on our time on earth is all the competition we need. Our mission is to support, showcase, and uplift the incredible people working tirelessly to develop the natural capital economy. We want to use our podcast to amplify their stories—to shine a light on the pioneers, partners and visionaries leading the charge-and we’re grateful we’ve been able to do exactly that.

To make this possible, we’ve been fortunate enough to bring together a team of creative minds—our marketing team includes a storytelling genius, literally one of the “crazy ones” Apple encouraged us all to find, along with one of the leading photographers and videographers in the country and the empathetic engagement lead that is committed to showcasing and hearing from the widest array of voices possible. Their creative power, combined with such a unique opportunity, led us to launch a podcast that could serve the growing natural capital sector and all of you reading this now.

The inspiration for our podcast, The Shoot Room Sessions, came after we acquired the beautiful Mornacott Estate in North Devon, complete with its award-winning shoot room. While thinking about how best to use this incredible space, we decided to repurpose not just the room but the very idea of what it could be used for. Instead of traditional shooting gatherings, why not turn it into a place to share ideas and conversations and shoot a podcast instead? With the infrastructure, creativity, and resources at our disposal, we launched a podcast dedicated to sharing the stories of the people driving the natural capital movement from its earliest days – a set of stories that we hope will literally change the world for the better.

My role is simple: to help them tell their stories, and to introduce them to many of you for the first time. In doing so, I hope to inspire you to listen, learn, and consider what you’re doing—or could do—to deliver positive impacts for both people and wildlife.
