Until Technology Do Us Part

If technology hasn't infiltrated every area of our lives already, people are now given the chance to actually get married with the help of the internet - and one particular company (and perhaps surprisingly) is at the forefront of making this happen.

Ikea (no, you didn't misread that) - the very same inexpensive Swedish furniture empire has set up the first online wedding service. They aren't just offering super cheap chairs for your guests to sit on, they have instead created an online platform called Wedding Online for you and your significant other to host your ceremony.

Similar to a group Skype session, you simply choose from the provided wedding destinations (which also happened to be furnished with Ikea inspired decorations), invite your Facebook friends via video link and you are all set to say your "I Dos".

For those thinking this is the answer to their long-distance love, or that this is just another clever marketing campaign, Ikea reminds budding brides and grooms that in order to make this wedding legally binding, they still require an official wedding celebrant and witnesses within the same room.

Perhaps this could be the perfect alternative to lovers with friends and family around the world. We are yet to see if this is a practical replacement for a quickie Vegas style wedding. However, with a court allowing a New York woman to divorce her husband through Facebook, I guess anything is possible.

In the future, our wedding vows may also include the phrase 'Until technology do us part.'
