The Unseen Struggles of Entrepreneurship: A Personal Journey

The Unseen Struggles of Entrepreneurship: A Personal Journey

The Call to Adventure

Four years ago, I stood at a crossroads, facing the daunting decision to implode my professional and family life in the United States. Driven by a deep-seated calling, I embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, a path far removed from the glamorized image of the 'cool CEO' in a black t-shirt and hoodie. My destination? Africa - a land brimming with potential yet fraught with unique challenges.

The Weight of Sacrifice

Entrepreneurship, I quickly learned, is a relentless test of resolve and endurance. It's a path less traveled, often misunderstood, and seldom acknowledged for its true hardships. This journey has been akin to a deployment, not in the traditional sense of military service, which I deeply respect, but in the commitment and sacrifice it demands. The parallels are uncanny - the weariness, the family sacrifices, and the constant state of alertness.

Aging in Entrepreneurship

With each passing year, the toll has become more evident. Not just externally, but internally - my very sinews aging, tested by the relentless pressures of startup life. It’s a process that has forced me to redefine concepts like financial security, as the survival of my company often overshadowed personal stability.

The Rollercoaster of Emotions

This journey has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Moments of despair, when my entrepreneurial 'love child' seemed on the brink of collapse, were unexpectedly countered by miraculous resuscitations, brief yet invigorating. The loneliness and heartbreak of being away from my family, the nights missing my wife and daughters' warmth, are the unseen sacrifices of this path.

The Why of Entrepreneurship

One critical lesson I’ve learned is the importance of being resolute in your "Why." Entrepreneurship is not just a career choice; it's a life choice, one that can break you if your foundation isn't strong. It's a journey that demands a clear understanding of your motivations because, at the end of the day, the world moves on, with or without your success.

The Unforgiving Minute

Despite the hardships, there remains a profound sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to create, to fill the "unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distance run." My internal voice keeps me going, reminding me that the path of entrepreneurship isn't meant to be easy. It's a marathon, not a sprint, and while I'm aware of my waning strength, my hope is that this endeavor will sustain itself long after my flame has dimmed.

In Conclusion

The possibility of not witnessing the full fruition of my efforts looms over me. Yet, the alternative – living with the misery and regret of not pursuing my calling – is a fate I have fortunately evaded. Each day, as I navigate the complexities and challenges of entrepreneurship, I am thankful for the strength to persevere, to "keep on keeping on."

In this journey, I've learned that entrepreneurship is not just about building a business; it's about building oneself, continually evolving in the face of adversity, and remaining steadfast in pursuit of a vision only you can see. It's a path not for the faint of heart, but for those who dare to dream and have the courage to chase those dreams, despite the cost.

The two write ups were both informative and relevant to the subjects and subject matter of the need for Comprehensive and Effective Healthcare and or Medical Care Delivery in the Gambia. Its potential is strengthened by the Data provided. However, it would be necessary as well as useful for the Research Data to be explicitly defined in terms of the nature of how the Data was Collected, from what Group or Groups and or Cohorts, over how many weeks, months or years. Was this a Longitudinal Study, a Survey or Self-Reported Survey? This information is relevant for Doublication purposes. That is, if and when it is necessary for follow up or an Independent entity wants to Replicate the Data in the Gambia or anywhere in the World. All said, you and your Healthcare and Healthcare Delivery Model may have potentially unlocked and opened up an opportunity for a more Effective and Cost effective Healthcare Delivery Model that have the potential to Revolutionize Gambian, African and the World's Healthcare Industry.
