"The Unseen Struggle of Salespeople"

After spending over a decade in sales, I’ve come to a poignant realization: as humans, we often forget the simple act of respecting each other’s efforts. We express interest in a product or service, but when we decide not to proceed—whether because it’s too expensive, not the right fit, or any other reason—we tend to ignore the person on the other end. What we often overlook is that behind every call, every message, there’s a person trying their best, just like we do in our own roles.
We’re all, in some way, selling something—our ideas, our skills, our services. So why is it so hard to extend a little kindness? Imagine the difference it could make if, instead of ignoring those calls, we took just a moment to say, “I appreciate your effort, but this isn’t the right time for me. Please don’t follow up further.” It’s a small gesture, but one that could mean the world to someone who’s been tirelessly reaching out, often facing rejection after rejection. Think about the courage it takes for that salesperson to pick up the phone again, to send yet another message, knowing they might be ignored once more. It’s not just about a missed sale—it’s about the silent toll it takes on a person’s spirit.
If even 10% of us made this simple change, imagine the ripple effect it could have. We could create a culture of respect, where everyone’s time and effort are valued. So the next time you’re not interested in a product or service, remember: it takes only a minute to show that you care. And in that minute, you could be making someone’s day a little brighter.
