Four zebras waiting for the Maastricht eX Prix

(Un)real #26: Earth Overshoot Day.

It has been an intense and interesting week for World eX and our clean energy Metaverse with a lot of cool things happening behind the scenes. The Nextview Maastricht eX Prix presented by BS+COMPETITION is just around the corner and our first ever World eX Summit is now just three weeks away. Both are promoting #racingfortheclimate which is ever more relevant considering the “Earth Overshoot Day” is back to where it was before COVID-19.

All the best

All eyes are on BS+COMPETITION this Tuesday when we go racing in the streets of Maastricht for round 4 of the 2022 World eX Championship. BS+ is the host team of the event and has become the first team to take full advantage of this year’s regulations which allow the host team to enter two additional art cars. Elias Sepp?nen and Jimmy Broadbent will line up alongside Alen Terzic and local hero Beitske Visser. There will thus be four zebras on track and Florian Haasper’s team has also put a lot of cool logos and hashtags all around the Maastricht circuit.??

The Nextview Maastricht eX Prix will be streamed live as usual on motorsport.tv, Twitch and YouTube on Tuesday from 19:00 UTC. And we are proud to announce that all the races of World eX will also be shown live in the Nemesis AntARTica Metaverse following a successful premiere last time for the French eX Prix. Thank you very much Kevin Lawson from Purple Pinguin for making this possible!

Nextview is the title partner of the 2022 Maastricht eX Prix and I had the opportunity to talk to Nextview Consulting CEO and Founder Huub Waterval – a very interesting personality who is doing a lot for sustainability, also in his home town Maastricht. In our interview he explains why Nextview Consulting is getting involved in esports racing and #racingfortheclimate.

I also spoke to Alen Terzic, one of the fastest World eX drivers who has still to win an eX Prix. He calls 5-time winner Lasse S?rensen “a sly fox” and says he just must do better after being beaten by the Dane in three World eX Finals. Terzic was in charge to prepare the dedicated setup for Maastricht and he hopes his choice will deliver thrilling racing.

World Championship leader ACER VERO R8G has run out of PRO racing drivers for Tuesday’s event – mainly because of the Spa 24 Hours. We’ve been glad to introduce Ellis Spiezia to them who recently wrote history by scoring the pole position for the first ever event of the electric ERA championship before hitting technical issues in the race. We’ll know on Tuesday if R8G will line up the young American as their PRO racing driver in Maastricht.?

We are overwhelmed by the positive feedback we are getting within the racing community for our new B2B event centered around electric racing, esports racing, clean energy and digitalization at BILSTER BERG. There will be a fantastic line-up of speakers and a lot of cool activities for visitors of the inaugural World eX Summit on August 13. So, save the date! We will reveal all details and start ticket sales at the end of next week.

The world’s probably craziest 24-hour race will also be part of the World eX Summit at BILSTER BERG. Six teams will compete on a digital “Slotfire” slot car track with six eX ZERO prototypes which are currently being built by model car artist Michael Niemas and Fola Osu. As usual in racing it’s a race against time even before the race starts but all six cars will of course be ready in time for the start of the race. The #RCCO24 has been staged since 1991 – but it’s the first time the 24-hour race will entirely use clean energy as the whole BILSTER BERG is operated on renewable energy delivered by a nearby wind turbine.

We are more than pleased that BS+COMPETITION’s Beitske Visser will race in Tuesday’s Nextview Maastricht eX Prix. The female PRO racer just achieved her first pole position in the W Series at Paul Ricard this weekend and is heading to Hungary for the next W Series round next weekend. It proves how seriously she is taking esports racing putting an eX Prix right in between two important real-world races.

Sweden is very much accelerating the switch to electric racing. Following the announcement that the STCC will go fully electric in 2023, the NEXT GEN Cup for junior drivers from the age to 14 to 25 has now been unveiled. The LRT NXT1 is based on a Mini Electric and is the world's first 100% electric junior touring car race car.

Alpine has become the latest car brand to go electric. Renault Group’s CEO says he wants to electrify Alpine “to preserve its name for all eternity”. The A110 E-ternity concept is the brand’s first 100 % electric car – and one of very few open-top electric cars. Alpine claims the rolling laboratory maintains the brand’s legendary agility with a lightness unequalled for an electric car in this segment.

Cadillac has unveiled a show car of the CELESTIQ – their project of a luxurious handcrafted all-electric flagship sedan which moves closer to production. With the CELESTIQ, Cadillac wants to return to the luxurious sector which made them popular.

July 28 is definitely not a good day. It’s the 2022 “Earth Overshoot Day” which marks the day when humanity has used up all the natural resources that mother earth can provide within a year. In 2022, it falls on July 28. Two years ago, pandemic-related reductions in resource use delayed Earth Overshoot Day by 24 days. But this year and last year, the day is back almost as early as it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earth Overshoot Day should really urge us all to think what we can do to help our planet. #racingfortheclimate is creating awareness for the fight against the climate crisis and it’s great that more and more great companies and brands like Nextview Consulting are joining our clean energy Metaverse World eX.

All the best! Stay safe and don’t waste energy!
