(Un)real #22. Electrifying Le Mans.

And soon it’s again race week! We are heading to Le Mans on Tuesday for the first French eX Prix which will be presented by Tom Kristensen’s esports racing team TK9 E-SPeeD supporting?Klimar?det – and we are busy preparing a new (real-world) event: the first World eX Summit. So, busy times ahead for our little part of the metaverse.

TK9 E-SPeeD is heading into their “home” event as the World Championship leaders on Tuesday (June 28, 19:00 UTC). Their PRO entry “Danish Dynamite” is leading the standings courtesy of two Top-2 results from Lasse S?rensen at Silverstone and Daytona. ACER VERO R8G’s VERO 88 and BS+COMPETITION’s “ZebrAlen” have also already secured tickets for the World Championship deciding Super Final on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife on December 13. S?rensen expects a lot of slipstreaming on the straights of Le Mans and thinks it will be difficult for any driver to make a gap at the front.?

Esports Team WRT has signed a new lead driver for their PRO entry in Chris Overend. The 39-year-old from Southampton is currently racing in Britcar despite being confined to a wheelchair. He is a big fan of esports racing and wants to show that disability doesn’t have to mean debilitated. “I’m really excited to join World eX,” said Overend.

German slot car & model builder Michael Niemas will have the chance to compete in the World eX Championship for a second time following a wild card entry at Silverstone in 2021. Niemas, who has over 20,000 followers on Instagram because of his art of model building, will race the ESPORTS entry of Biela Racing Team EURONICS at Le Mans. Niemas and Team Principal Frank Biela now each other from World eX Slot Racing. Niemas became the famous #windshadowman in the 2020 RCOC #RaceHome Charity Racing Series and clinched the first two titles World eX Bizz with his own team NReSports.

McLaren has decided to use a Nissan powertrain when it enters Formula E from Season 9 onwards. It’s the first time Nissan will have a customer team in Formula E. Nissan has struggled in the Gen2 era of Formula E but wants to be a championship contender with the new Gen3 cars.?

Polestar has been showing a prototype of the Polestar 5 in public for the first time at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Swedish brand is developing a new electric powertrain with?800-Volt architecture. The dual motor powertrain aims to deliver 884 hp and 900 Nm of torque.

Ford has built an unique electric van together with the help of Manfred Stohl’s company STARD. The Ford Pro Electric SuperVan’s four electric motors produce approximately 2,000 hp. The van debuted at Goodwood and was developed to showcase Ford’s EV capabilities and the new E Transit.

Quantron’s QARGO 4 EV can now be ordered. The electric truck for the last mile as has range of up to 300 km and Quantron claims it can be charged in fully charged within 1 to 2 hours. Quantron has become the first European manufacturer to offer its new zero-emission vehicles online on TruckScout24.

Tesla is rolling out its Non-Tesla Supercharger pilot in ever more countries including Germany allowing non-Tesla drivers to charge their electric cars. Tesla has more than 35,000 Superchargers worldwide and says it wants to support its mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Obviously, the pilot is not very popular among Tesla owners.

It took them some time but TK9 E-SPeeD has finally decided which climate protection project they are going to support by racing in the World eX Championship. Tom Kristensen’s team has opted for Klimar?det.The Danish Council on Climate Change provides recommendations on climate initiatives in the transition to a low-carbon society based on independent analyses.

On June 8, the European Parliament voted to ban sales of new internal combustion engine cars and vans in the European Union from 2035 onward, allowing only electric and hydrogen cars. To be applied, the new regulation will have to go through the European Council of environment ministers this coming Tuesday (June 28).?

Testing has started for Season 5 of our networking esports racing series World eX Bizz which is due to begin in September. Different tracks are being tested each Tuesday at 18:00 UTC in our weekly Bizz “Meet & Drive” events. Fuji proved not to be very popular last Tuesday while the drivers – including two-time World eX Bizz Champion Julius Martin had a lot of fun racing at Kyalami in South Africa.?
