?? Unprofitable markets become a Bird-en
After?Shane Torchania replaced Travis VanderZanden as President and CEO , Bird's turbulent time continues as they take measures to boost profitability. One immediate, yet decisive move has been to exit mid-sized cities across the globe, as well as??all markets in Germany, Norway and Sweden . The company consider these regions as lacking regulatory framework for its services to be profitable. They have also ended the franchise model in several smaller French cities (Figeac ,?Montlu?on ,?Draguignan ).?
Despite this decision, the jig isn't up just yet. Bird remains a strong actor in Europe, with bike and scooter fleets available in 13 countries, including in major markets such as Milan, Rome, Marseille, Madrid and Lisbon.
???? Ireland warms up to the micromobility revolution
Although Ireland remains one of the last countries to introduce laws on the use of scooters,?legislation to allow them is on the way in 2023 . Besides, TIER Mobility , Bolt and Lime are already offering shared electric bikes in the country, and?policy is not lagging behind ?when it comes to boosting cycling.
The new Irish Finance bill will add a?€3,000 tax incentive for the purchase of a cargo bike , complementing the €1,500 and €1,250 already available for electric bikes and conventional bikes. Residents in Dublim will have a 310km-long cycle lane network at their disposal, thanks to the?Active Travel plan ?announced by the Dublin City Council . Extraordinarily, this is 31 times longer than the current network, and it is set to be completed by 2031.?
