Unprecedented Times
May 2014 and February 2018, the only 2 times I have worked from home. Working from home is something I have never wanted as I like being in the office as I feel it focuses me.
However, with the current outbreak of the Coronavirus there is no option other than to work from home. So yesterday was my 3rd ever experience of working from home, so I am far from an expert on it but with the majority of the nation set to be working from home I thought I would review what we should be doing to help our mindsets:
Work your regular hours
Its tempting when working from home to work nonstop and also start earlier and finish later. You need to stick to your normal work schedule, take regular breaks and start and finish at your normal time.
Create routine
Get up, get dressed for work, have your breakfast and go to your desk as if you have arrived at work. Its important to have a routine it helps with the mindset every morning.
Fresh air
Take a break at lunchtime, head out for a walk, clear your head. This is important as over the coming weeks working from home and with so many social settings shut down you need to avoid feeling like you are housebound.
Video meetings with Colleagues
Definitely have regular video calls with your manager and colleagues, it will help remind you that you are still apart of a team. It will also not hurt to talk about other items as well as business, a big part of office life is talking about items other than business, so it makes sense to let this happen whilst in a working from home period.
These are just some things I am aiming to do whilst working from home. We are all in unprecedented times and its difficult to predict what’s going to happen. Lets all try and work together to get through this tough time and hopefully out the backend we will all be back in our offices doing business as usual.
