Unplug To Recharge.

Unplug To Recharge.

In the fast-paced world of internal communications, staying digitally connected has become a pretty big deal. We’re forever juggling emails, team chats, and virtual meetings, often leading to a big ol’ burnout and screen-induced headaches. However, it's crucial to strike a balance between the digital and real world.

Enter the realm of digital detoxes – a refreshing approach to maintaining your sanity in the ever-connected world.

THE IMPORTANCE OF DIGITAL DETOXES.

Constant exposure to screens can lead to a range of physical and mental health issues, including eye strain, sleep disruption, heightened stress levels, and (as our nans would say) giving us square eyes. By embracing digital detox practices, we not only protect our well-being but also enhance our ability to communicate effectively.

DIVERSIFY YOUR COMMUNICATION CHANNELS.

In the digital age, we have bags of communication tools at our disposal, each serving a unique purpose. Beyond the usual suspects like emails and team chats, consider incorporating alternative channels. Instead of emailing company updates out, tell a story using film, or even get everyone together IRL (that’s ‘In Real Life’) and communicate in person! By diversifying your communication, you break the monotony of text-based conversations and infuse a human touch into your interactions.

SET CLEAR BOUNDARIES.

A huge challenge in the digital age is the blurring of lines between work and personal life. Establishing clear boundaries around your digital interactions is super important. Designate specific times for checking emails and messages and communicate these boundaries to your colleagues. An OOO stating operating hours works like magic! This practice not only helps you stay focused during work hours but also ensures you have ample time to disconnect and recharge. If all else fails, stick your phone in that drawer!!!

ENGAGE IN SCHEDULED DIGITAL BREAKS.

Intense digital engagement can lead to burnout and a dip in productivity. Scheduling digital breaks into your routine can alleviate these issues. During these breaks, step away from your screen, stretch, take a short walk, or engage in a quick mindfulness exercise. This applies to any virtual events and training, ensure you factor in time to process, and even make a cuppa! Prying yourself away from your screen not only reduces screen-induced headaches but also rejuvenate your creativity and problem-solving abilities.

EXPLORE HYBRID INTERACTION.

While digital communication is efficient, there's immense value in IRL interactions (remember that one from earlier). Consider organising periodic in-person meetings, team-building activities, or even immersive event experiences. These gatherings not only strengthen relationships but also allow for more nuanced communication, fostering a deeper understanding among team members.

The role of internal communications in the digital landscape is undeniable. However, our well-being and effectiveness should not be compromised in the process. By adopting digital detox practices, we can strike a balance between our digital and real-world interactions, leading to enhanced communication, improved mental and physical health, and being happier in your job!

So, let's unplug to recharge.
