An unofficial guide to Stockholm
Whilst standing on a platform at Stockholm’s Central station, I was mistakenly identified as a local by two Gentleman who asked me for directions. I respectfully advised that I was not local, but thankfully for them, I could see the document that they were reading and recognised the word ASSA. I quickly changed my statement and introduced myself as it was clear we were all traveling to TG3 – EN 14846 at ASSA’s local sales office in Stockholm.
We quickly established that we were colleagues from CENELEC, with them representing Austria and Switzerland, and myself representing the BSI and the DHF at the same meeting.
My new colleagues were from Glutz A G (Mr Rolf Allemann) and Kabadorma (Mr Markus Kornhofer). We all shared a common goal, which was to provide minimum performance standards ensuring ‘life safety’ in ‘life critical locking applications’, particularly when these products are used in Fire Door applications. The objective was to create a common set of rules across the CENELEC region.
I became their guide for the next two days, even finding a nice relaxing venue on the lakeside for a well-deserved lunch break. I believe that it’s always important to enjoy a mix of hard work and downtime ensuring we are fresh for the work sessions, they were intensive as they involved ensuring that the draft met all of the national and local requirements.

7 年Patrick, I fully agree with you: in my long experience as Convener of WGs and technical expert in TC 79 and TC 216 I've been delighted to cooperate positively (debating, discussing, some time fighting, often finding agreements) with colleagues coming from different countries of the Cenelec area during the meetings, and often creating friendly shared moments of relax, having a bier, walking, eating toghether, comparing different habits, culture, points of view!
