It Was Unnecessary to Go In

"I went in unnecessarily." She didn't immediately add, "But this was the last time."

She's not that type. Instead, she quietly, sadly noted that she traveled back and forth for almost two hours. For this.

She burned a lot of diesel fuel. She could have taken the tram, but she can't handle the crowd, and admittedly, she's afraid of catching something.

She didn't need another illness. So, she stayed with the car.

Of course, she doesn't pay for it, but the company does. There will be proper work with it too; there was diesel only at the second gas station. So she went to the second one, asked for a receipt, and at least listened to the morning show. Then she'll have to explain to HR why she didn't fuel with the card, but what can you do if there's no choice.

She started working around quarter to ten; at home, she would have been at it for almost an hour and a half already, when the house quiets down, and the kids are at school.

But that's not even the painful part. Only when she was rushing home and called the older one to try and gather the little one, as she surely wouldn't make it in time. Why the heck are there so many people everywhere again. Christmas time, of course.

The office was empty, though.

The person she wanted to talk to wasn't there today. Peter didn't come either, even though he promised, but his child was feverish, so they held everything over Teams.

She could have sat in her kitchen. She could have ordered the Christmas candies for home today, but she was afraid she wouldn't make it home, and now, of course, they're not on sale.

She won't be able to handle it in the afternoon because she's rushing for the kids.

"I won't go in next time," she finally stated confidently. Both of us know it's not true.

Anna will be the first to resign, then maybe they'll realize. If he says it's because of this. He calculated that if he submits it on December 12th, his annual leave will just run out, then he can start at the new place after the winter break.

Well, at home, because nothing else will change. He's going to a supplier, not a nice move, but his contract doesn't include a non-compete clause, and they have a full remote there.

There's a full remote there. My God, I envy them, no mandatory two days a week, no mandatory three days a week, nothing. Just a small office. They call them group rooms like we used to have in kindergarten. It's like that, but at least they're happy to see each other occasionally. Not every Monday. It's not necessary.

"I won't go in next time either," she repeats the sentence defiantly, then, of course, backtracks; well, she likes going in, the others are good people too, but you never know who will be there. It's not kindergarten, you know, we're like in high school, and everyone has buried their almost unknown great-aunt six times already.

We'll lye anything, just so we don't have to go in unnecessarily.

I hate traffic jams.

And the cold office.

And the 15 EUR lunch.

At the end of which I always eat the dessert too, even though I didn't want to.

It's easier at home.

It would be.

It will be.
