The masking of serious issues part 3 of 3: Unmasking the Silence

I am not a medical expert and have no formal technical expertise on the topics of suicide or mental health.?

In this previous article - about hiding depression behind success - I share some personal insights and some other experiences.

This article focus is:

Navigating Moments of Despair and Fostering Prevention

In the blink of an eye, there comes a moment when it feels like no one in the world truly understands the pain you're carrying within. It's a moment when your inner demons seem insurmountable, and you begin to doubt your self-worth entirely. You might even believe that you're not contributing anything meaningful to anyone or anything, and that the world, even Mother Earth herself, would be better off without you.

?

But how do you cope with these overwhelming feelings in that split second? There are countless campaigns out there proclaiming, "There is help," but in that moment, it can feel nearly impossible to be convinced otherwise. You've reached rock bottom, and these campaigns might even inadvertently exacerbate your already fragile state of mind.

?

So, what can be done? Thankfully, some individuals find the strength to make a call, to remember the existence of these campaigns, or to reach out to a therapist. However, in some countries, including Suriname, the stigma surrounding mental health remains a significant barrier. Sometimes, it's not even the person in question who is resistant to seeking help, but influential figures like a romantic partner or a supervisor who discourage them from doing so. So not everyone will be released with the well-meant campaigns.

Maybe you are one of the sceptic persons who would not make the call in that split second... when you've hit rock bottom "and nobody's there".... So what to do?

?

Advice to consider:

?The most challenging aspect to overcome is that split second when despair overwhelms you. Instead of fixating on finding a solution during that fleeting moment, it's more valuable to invest your energy in preventing yourself from plunging to such depths in the first place.

?

Daily habits, lifestyle

Every morning, remember that you need to recharge for the day ahead. The more difficult it feels, the more drained you become, and the more energy is siphoned away, the greater the importance of ensuring you have the resources to recharge yourself.

?

In this world, where silence often masks struggles, it's crucial to break down the barriers surrounding mental health. By acknowledging the significance of prevention and self-care, we can create a society that fosters understanding, support, and resilience, so that those fleeting moments of despair become rarer and rarer, eventually replaced by a brighter and more hopeful outlook.
