The UNMANAGED Academy is coming!

Leaders and managers can now gain mastery of the proven, productivity-boosting methods described in the award-winning book, UNMANAGED, which chronicled the techniques and insights discovered during productivity-boosting transformation work at hundreds of agencies and other high-productivity organizations.

The UNMANAGED Academy Masterclass series will provide powerful education and coaching that will enable managers to:

  • Boost productivity and capacity through greater empowerment of workers and teams,
  • Reduce scope challenges and overages through building alignment and understanding across teams and stakeholders,
  • Find better, more inclusive solutions to challenging situations,
  • Inspire others, by example, to manage and lead better.

Courses that help you put Unmanaging into action every day

Yes, you can read the award-winning book, but putting those insights into practice i requires a learning and coaching process that drives concepts into action. The academy Masterclasses are structured to provide actionable insights that lead to new behaviors and better outcomes, right away.

Individual course sessions will use a proven learning-to-coaching action model, consisting of readings, interactive seminar sessions, and a powerful technique known as small learning groups (SLGs), in which groups formed of 6-10 leaders and managers will explore the application each session’s techniques, receiving direct feedback and coaching from UNMANAGED author, Jack Skeels. Participants may also take advantage of discounted coaching services as part of their enrollment, to further deepen their individual learning and application of the techniques.

  • Pre-read selections for each Session: a curated set of 300-500-word selections from the book (and other working papers) with a preface and summary designed for the course.
  • Seminar sessions: bi-weekly 45–60-minute interactive Zoom sessions (with time for deeper discussion and Q&A), that will be recorded for participant’s later viewing and review.
  • Small Learning Groups: SLGs are curated groups of 6-10 managers and leaders that meet one week after each live seminar session to discuss the application of the session material and key topics and issues in implementing the concepts presented.

Built for Organizational and Individual Learning

The SLG format enables us to teach and guide individuals, departments, and select manager groups from organizations.

  • Individual learners are welcome! Each participant will be assigned to an SLG cohort that contains other individuals with related backgrounds (similar industries, etc.)?
  • APAC and EU learners will have time-zone-appropriate SLG meeting times.
  • AgencyAgile alumni and client personnel. AgencyAgile alumni are those who were originally trained on the Unmanaged methods in an AgencyAgile client organization. Because of the higher knowledge and experience level, we will tend to put these people into the same SLGs.
  • Organizational departments and groups can get their own SLG groups, enabling a deeper focus on specific workplace issues and opportunities.

The Academy Curriculum

The Academy is launching with two Masterclasses designed for managers or leaders of all levels. In the future, specialization courses will cover focused topics, such as: agency operations, large projects success rates, the real secrets of software agile, and leadership seminars in organizational design for knowledge work and design and implementation of transformation programs.

Objective: To reconnect the concepts of managing, productivity, and managerial posture and actions, giving the participant the ability to see many of the sources and impact of mistaken managerial behaviors and shift to more effective models of managing.

Course #2: Leadership Masterclass – Organization and Methods

Objective: To decode the modern multi-multi workplace and its many challenges and broaden the manager’s portfolio of techniques to shape performance and results at a departmental and project level.

  • Session #3: The Why Moment, Part 2
