As today is the first of the month, we decided to talk about GOAL SETTING.
Every month, I head to Los Angeles for GrowthDay on the first of the month, and every month, we focus on personal growth, along with setting goals for the upcoming month. Then, as we return, we update and reset. Showing up live in a masterclass monthly will teach you about yourself. It almost feels like yesterday when I set my October Goals. And here we are again back in LA to report in.
Today, as I thought about what my goals will be for November, I reminded the group to not only write down their list of todo's but to think and contemplate, take a step back, and truly imagine and envision what today would feel like If it was the end of November if were reporting in on the goals you set to a coach.
With this thinking in mind, what would you coach yourself on if you were a high-performance coach?
One of the issues with traditional goal setting is that our goals usually revolve around work and nothing else. However, as we start to shift to live a life of incurable positivity, it's critical that you begin to include goals around your mindset and stretch yourself beyond what your daily todos are.
Here's how I set my monthly goals.
1. Meaningful pursuit - I make sure they are meaningful to me, they inspire me to become a greater version of myself, and they include bigger visions for myself. For example, one goal is to ensure I bring more fun into my life. Why? Because I want to enjoy life. One thing I have learned lately is that tomorrow is not guaranteed, and making time to have more meaningful experiences that I can share with others has become one of my core pillars for life.
2. Set your five goals - I set five high-level goals, and to do this, I ask what is important to my life: career, health, wealth, business. This keeps my goals bigger than my to-do list, allows me to think beyond and pace, and focuses me on meaningful goals.
3. List five things that will move the needle under each one - Then, under the list of five goals, I list five actions that will get me closer to the accomplishment of those goals, I learned this from Brendon Burchard s High-Performance Habits Book. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it. I then have this list on my desktop and review it weekly and make sure my schedule is planned firstly with these activities before I add anything else to it. This keeps me productive instead of busy. In case this interests you, I am adding a link HERE
4. Plan in gratitude and reflection weekly - Gratitude and Credit for ourselves are critical to hold onto an incurably positive mindset. I add this into my week on a Friday, and I also go back to review my calendar, complete a time audit, and add in anything that was not planned that I accomplished, like publishing an article, etc. Sunday is also a great day to spend time in your imagination, reflecting and projecting where you want to go in complete gratitude.
5. Plan for derailment. Get ahead of what could derail your mindset. At the end of the day, all goals and accomplishing them come down to our thoughts. Most recently, I was having a conversation with someone; they were struggling with fear, AKA limiting beliefs, that kept rearing its ugly head. And I asked her to visualize it as a ceiling that she was now breaking through to make it her floor. Instead of looking at it so BIG, look at it as if you are standing on it. I also asked her to speak to that part of her that is trying to protect her and thank it for letting her know she may be approaching danger, but not to worry, she's got it. Her thoughts immediately dissipated. When we can get ahead of what could derail us, our thoughts, we have a much better chance of accomplishing our goals. So take a look at your goals and ask yourself which one could trip you up. And get ahead of it mentally. How we deal with fear is what will be reflected in our accomplishments.
Lastly, visualize the end of the month and how it will feel to accomplish your goals.
