Unlocking Work-Life Balance: Is Working from Home the Key to a Healthier Lifestyle?

Since, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the widespread adoption of remote work as a measure to slow the spread of the virus. With many businesses and employees feeling the impact of lockdowns, working from home has become the new normal for many people around the world, as it allows for a continued work routine without risking exposure to the virus. Additionally, the availability of digital tools and communication technology has made it possible for employees to work from anywhere, and for many companies, the shift to remote work has proven to be successful, leading to a continued trend even after the pandemic has subsided.

A question I always get asked is working from home the key to a healthier lifestyle?

I think this question is very much subjective, depending on your own personal circumstances and of course your work circumstances. For example, if you are a builder or supermarket worker you don't have the option to work from home. I'm fortunate to have that option.

For me, I prefer being in the office, as I like to differentiate between my work and personal life, however I do like the flexibility of being able to work remotely from anywhere in the world!

I have listed below a few reasons why working from home could be the key to a healthier lifestyle:

  • Flexibility: Working from home allows for a more flexible schedule, giving employees the ability to balance their work and personal life as needed.
  • Reduced Commute: Not having to commute to and from work saves time, reduces stress, and saves money on transportation costs.
  • Improved Work-Life Balance: Working from home provides employees with the ability to structure their day in a way that works best for them, leading to a healthier work-life balance.
  • Increased Productivity: Research has shown that employees are more productive when working from home due to reduced distractions and interruptions.
  • Improved Mental Health: The absence of a daily commute and the flexibility to structure their day as needed can lead to improved mental health for employees.
  • Lower Overhead Costs: Companies can save money on office space and other overhead costs associated with maintaining a physical office.
  • Better Physical Health: Without the stress of a daily commute, employees are able to prioritise exercise, eating well, and other habits that contribute to their overall well-being.
  • Reduced Sick Days: Without the spread of germs in a shared office space, employees are less likely to take time off for illness.
  • Increased Focus: With fewer distractions and interruptions, employees are better able to focus on their work and be more productive.
  • Improved Employee Satisfaction: By giving employees the flexibility to work from home, companies can improve employee satisfaction and retain top talent.

great article Nick, personally prefer working from home due to better productivity and not having to make the commute and lose 2-3 hours of my day.
