Future Work Summit 2022 | Unlocking value through Strategic Procurement

Maria MacNamara spoke with Detlef Schultz, Mark Perera and Warrick Cramer at the Future Work Summit in Adelaide and online on 9 March 2022.

Strategic procurement is a critical asset for every organisation. It can be leveraged to accelerate transformation, unlock innovation and improve efficiency.

For the first time in Australia, we heard from three of the world’s leading practitioners of the art and science of strategic procurement.?

Together, they have managed to position procurement as a critical asset for every organisation and leveraged it to: 1/ accelerate transformation, 2/ unlock innovation, 3/ improve efficiency and most importantly 4/ to do good.

So how did they do it??

Detlef Schultz is a Co-Founder of akirolabs , a German SaaS provider of an AI-enabled enterprise-wide collaboration platform for strategic procurement.?He is Chairman of the Vodafone Procurement Company in Luxembourg and holds board seats with Vodafone Roaming Services in Luxembourg and Elearningforce in Denmark.?Detlef is a Senior Advisor for the CEO of Machavert Pharmaceuticals in Colorado, USA. He joined Vodafone in 2003 to lead the Global Supply Chain team and was responsible for? the strategic and operational leadership of Vodafone’s Supply Chain Management across the globe in the areas of Network Infrastructure, IT and Services.?From 2008 Detlef led the Luxembourg-based Vodafone Procurement Company, which provides a single point of purchase for the Group. He stepped down from his role as CEO in 2016 after 13 years of service.?Prior to Vodafone, Detlef spent more than six years in Santa Clara, California with the world’s largest semiconductor equipment manufacturer, Applied Materials – where he held various Supply Chain, Planning and Operations Management responsibilities. He was a Member of the Board of Management for Babcock-BSH in Germany, where he led Supply Chain Management and financial controlling, and also worked for Siemens for 10 years; Detlef started his Supply Chain career with Siemens in 1985 in the area of Materials Management.?Born and raised in Germany, Detlef has? lived in Korea and Singapore and the United States. He graduated from the University of Cologne with a master’s degree in business.

Mark Perera is the founder and CEO of Vizibl , a Gartner Cool Vendor 2020, and the founder of Procurement Leaders. He’s on a mission to help companies collaborate with their supplier ecosystem to drive sustainable business growth. For more than twenty years, entrepreneur Warrick Cramer has been turning his mind to the business of digital transformation and the evolution of what is next for society.? Driven by a passion for technology, global collaborations and the exchange of ideas, Warrick has paved the way for many start-ups and new technologies. As the Global Director, Innovation Strategy for Kyndryl , the managed infrastructure services business spun off from IBM, Warrick collaborates with global partners and builds connections with the innovation ecosystem to support Kyndryl’s customers to achieve their ambitions.?Warrick is also an Adjunct Professor in the Business School of the University of Queensland.?Warrick returned to Melbourne from Luxembourg in 2020, where he was the CEO of the Vodafone’s Global Centre for Innovation in Europe, known as Tomorrow Street – a joint venture between Vodafone and the Government of Luxembourg to scale late-stage startups, assisting them to reach key global markets and make real change.?Prior to moving to Europe, Warrick was an established entrepreneur in Melbourne. Among the businesses he founded was Micro P, a mobile payment company that developed a highly successful payment security authentication system that is still used by several banks today. Warrick Holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University and a Masters of Marketing from Monash University.
