Look. You've got it all wrong. You don't need to follow me. You don't need to follow anybody! You've got to think for yourselves. You're all individuals!
We all have a cultural identity, and it is this identity that informs our behaviour. Our culture shapes us and determines how we show up in life. It is the ultimate cheat code, providing access to values, beliefs, artefacts, tools, and behaviours that influence our decisions and actions. In this blog, we will explore the three components of culture to understand how they inform our behaviour and create a cheat code for success.
Values and Beliefs:?Values and beliefs form an integral part of our culture, and these values and beliefs inform our behaviour. Values are things we believe in, like justice and fairness, while beliefs are our opinions about the world. These components create a framework for how we interact with each other and shape how we show up in life.
Artefacts and Tools: Our culture also includes the artefacts and tools we use daily. These can be anything from language, music, clothing, and technology. All these elements help shape our behaviour and create an environment where we are comfortable acting out our beliefs.

Actions and Behaviours:?Culture is not just about the values and beliefs we adhere to but also the actions and behaviours resulting. Through our actions and behaviours, we demonstrate our cultural identity and how it influences other people. We act out our beliefs to create a collective culture that allows us to get ahead.
Cheat Code for Success:?We aren't rational beings living in a social and cultural vacuum, but instead rationalising pack members defined by our culture, and our culturally-constructed worldview informs our behaviour. That is, the way we see the world informs how we show up in the world, as my dear friend Marcus Collins elegantly stated. Our beliefs, values and behaviours are shaped by the stories we tell ourselves about what is essential. How we think affects how we act in our daily lives and interactions with others. Our social and cultural context also shapes our relationships with one another and can have a significant impact on how successful or unsuccessful those relationships become. Human beings are social creatures, and our lives are shaped by the network of relationships that we belong to. It's in the fabric of humanity to want to belong, to be part of a network, of networks, of networks.
"Man by nature is a social animal" – Aristotle.
Conclusion:?Culture is the cheat code for success, and understanding its three components - values and beliefs, artefacts and tools, and actions and behaviours - can help us unlock our potential. By understanding how these components influence our behaviour, culture is the ultimate cheat code, whether you are looking to start a new business or want to know why certain people behave the way they do.
