As it turns out, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security added Donghai JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd to their Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List. This essentially banned the import and sale of all JA Solar products in the U.S.?

The Department of Homeland Security did this on the grounds that they suspected that JA Solar sources it’s polysilicon (a fundamental material in the production of PV modules) from Xinjiang, a region in China where the Uyghur people are an ethnic minority and are thought to be forced into slave labour.

But JA Solar have shown their commitment to ethical practices and supply chain transparency with their Integrated Traceability System (ITS), so this couldn’t possibly be true, right??

Well, having their ITS protocol in place helped JA Solar cooperate fully during the investigation and bounce back from this suspension in less than 2 weeks. Their membership was reinstated on January 29th after the investigation revealed that the facility in question had ceased production in 2018, and no violations of SSI Principles were found.
