Unlocking the Secrets of Older Adults' Physical Activity???

I have had an honor to interview great guests on the podcast, and in this blog post I am summarizing the discussions with Dr. Dori Rosenberg, who shared fascinating insights into her research on older adults' physical activity and sedentary behavior. ????

?? Dori's work focuses on understanding the unique needs and experiences of older adults, especially when it comes to reducing sedentary behavior and promoting physical activity. She has been working on several innovative studies, some of which are still ongoing.

?? One of the studies Dori mentioned collects activity monitoring data to better understand older adults' physical activity patterns.

??? Another important project is her NIH-funded trial aimed at reducing sedentary behavior among older adults. This large trial has faced challenges due to the pandemic, but it's still going strong and will hopefully lead to important publications soon.

?? Alongside her research, Dori has been working on a passion project with Dr. Jacqueline Kerr - a podcast called "The Women Behind the Wrinkles" (which might be changing its title soon). This podcast aims to share older women's stories, providing valuable insights for younger women struggling in academia and life in general.

?? Dori's dedication to her research and her passion for understanding and promoting physical activity among older adults shines through in our conversation. It's clear that she has a deep respect for the resilience and wisdom of the older adults she works with.

?? Some key takeaways from our conversation with Dori include:

  • Older adults have unique needs and experiences when it comes to physical activity and sedentary behavior
  • Reducing sedentary behavior is crucial for maintaining good health and well-being in older age
  • Innovative studies, like the ACT study and the NIH-funded trial, can provide valuable insights for promoting physical activity among older adults
  • Sharing older women's stories can inspire and support younger women facing challenges in academia and life

“We have a stressful job, and one of the good things that come out of it is reconnecting to our daily lives and how we have so many important things in our lives that have nothing to do with work.” - Dr. Dori Rosenberg

Would be great to hear your thoughts on any of the following questions:

  1. What strategies have you found effective in promoting physical activity among older adults? ??
  2. What other unique challenges do older adults face when trying to maintain or improve their physical activity levels? ???
  3. As researchers or clinicians, how can we better address the issues related to sedentary behavior in older populations? ??
