?? Focus of the Week: Unlocking the Power of Culture Metrics and Behavioral Insights

This week, we explore the interconnected facets of company culture. From measuring the right metrics to utilising behavioural assessments, we’ll delve into how these components can work in tandem to enhance your organisation’s culture and performance.

Insight 1 - Measuring Company Culture: Beyond Superficial Metrics ??

Are you focusing on the right metrics when it comes to building a strong company culture? ??

Culture is not just a buzzword; it’s the backbone of your organisation, determining your success.

However, many companies fall into the trap of fixating on superficial indicators rather than focusing on the metrics that truly drive a thriving culture.

The problem with superficial metrics is that they fail to capture your company culture’s essence. Things like turnover rates and engagement surveys offer some insights, but they are just the tip of the iceberg. Focusing on them alone risks overlooking the deeper factors that truly shape your culture.

Here are a few tips to figure out what’s the right metrics for your company:

?? Start with your company’s mission and values: Hone into your organisation’s purpose and core values. Identify the behaviours, attitudes, and outcomes that align with these guiding principles. These will serve as a foundation for selecting metrics that reflect and reinforce your desired culture.

?? Align metrics with strategic goals: Consider your organisation’s strategic objectives and link them to your culture metrics. For example, if innovation is a key goal, you might track metrics related to knowledge sharing, cross-functional collaboration, or employee-driven initiatives. Ensure that the metrics you choose to support and reinforce your strategic priorities.

?? Review existing data and feedback: Analyse existing people-related data sources and look for patterns, trends, and themes that indicate areas of strength and areas for improvement. Leverage this information to identify leading indicators that provide early signals and a more comprehensive view of your cultural health.

?? Lastly, always experiment and iterate: Developing the right set of metrics takes time and iteration. Start with a few key metrics and evaluate their effectiveness over time. Seek feedback from employees and leaders on the usefulness and relevance of the metrics. Adapt and refine as needed to ensure they continue to align with your evolving culture goals.

It’s time to shift our focus and prioritise the metrics that truly drive a positive and impactful culture.

Insight 2 - Harnessing Insights through Behavioral Assessments ??

Are you currently utilising behavioural or psychometric assessments within your company? If so, you have a valuable opportunity to indirectly measure your organisation’s culture.?

While these assessments are commonly used at the individual or team level, taking them to the organisational level can provide a broader understanding of your company’s personality.

Let me share an example of how I recently helped a client who implemented Core Strengths, a motives-based assessment, for all their managers. Previously, they primarily utilised the assessment results to enhance team dynamics and communication.

However, I recognised the untapped potential of using this data to gain insights at the organisational level. It revealed deeper-rooted causes behind some of their persistent challenges and, most importantly, their consequences.

This sparked richer discussions and decisions, enabling the client to effectively pivot and refine their initiatives to address these underlying causes.

So, if your company consistently employs behavioural or psychometric assessments, it’s time to unlock an additional cultural lens to gain a more comprehensive understanding of your culture and improve your company’s overall performance.

So what? One quick win for you!?

Start by identifying a few key metrics that align with your company’s mission, values, and strategic goals. Then, consider integrating behavioural or psychometric assessments to gain deeper insights into your organisational culture. By connecting these insights, you’ll be better equipped to drive meaningful change and improvements within your company.
