Welcome to a special edition of the Place Brand Insider newsletter here on LinkedIn: announcing the launch of the inaugural?edition of the International Masterclass on Competitive Identity led by our esteemed friends and long-standing members of the TPBO Hall of Fame - Simon Anholt and Robert Govers.
Taking place in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia (just across the border from Vienna), the one-day event is organized by the civic association Brand Slovensko 30 under the patronage of the country's Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
The masterclass will equip leaders of cities, regions, and countries with cutting-edge insights and strategies for effective reputation management, focusing on Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

Keynote Speeches
First, Simon Anholt (check his professional profile here) will discuss the concept of "Competitive Identity", explaining the significance of national identity in shaping international engagement and reputation. The Competitive Identity framework prioritizes "world-friendly" policies as the key to enhancing a nation's image - arguing that active promotion may not be necessary if a country's contributions to global issues are substantial, principled, collaborative, and aligned with long-term national strategies.
Simon's input is followed by a keynote from Robert Govers (visit his professional profile here) who will talk about brand management and the marketing of cities and nations. Robert will provide a detailed introduction to the various concepts and their practical implications in a real-world scenario.

Case Studies and Discussion
Drawing from over twenty years of experience advising governments worldwide, Simon and Robert will share invaluable learnings and case studies, including success stories from the Netherlands, Austria, and Mexico.
