"Unlocking the Power of ChatGPT: 6 ways B2B Marketers can utilize the latest language model technology"

Note: Only the headline of this article was written by ChatGPT. Everything else came from the 6" between my ears (for better or worse).

There's been a lot of chatter about the rise of AI, and all the good and bad (terminator?!) that comes along with it.

It's been REALLY popular among marketing Linkedin posts recently too. Many foreboding.

But in an effort to share how not totally scary it is - I made this meme.

And more useful than this meme, here are 6 ways B2B marketers can use ChatGPT effectively.

1.) Headlines and subject lines

ChatGPT Is really good at making variations of something that already exists.

That can be useful when you've been in the following scenario.

POV: You're a marketer with a keyboard and the intention to write a compelling sentence

"Wow, the content is there, but GAWD do I hate it! I wish I wrote it differently" - you

If this has ever been you, take that mediocre sentence and load it into ChatGPT and ask it to give you variations with some spin.

Here's an example:

(lol at marmite, had to google that..)

While you might not fall in love with any of those 3, you can pick one and try again, change out the word playful, or make 100 variations(!).

In either case, it can serve as a breakthrough tool to spark that last bit of inspiration you need to write the perfect headline.

2.) De-jargon things

We all do it. We wanna sound fancy, and smart. We wanna differentiate our product using words from the intersection of SAT words and the 4th option in your personal thesauraus.

But when we do, we alienate our core message, and we overcomplicate sometimes simple things.

If you're writing copy, PARTICULARLY if it's for a software or technology - try to write what you think it does, and then have ChatGPT dumb it down a little.

3.) Draft social content

Consistency is key on social platforms like Linkedin.

Sometimes it's hard to just write a post. Where do you start? How long?

It's so much easier to edit something that's there than it is to start anew, so use ChatGPT to give you a draft to edit in your own voice.

Take what's there and add some extra value, rearrange the points, put it in your own voice.

OR, take what was written as inspiration to write something of your own.

4.) Get answers to questions where Google is failing

Don't feel like sifting through pages of Google results and deciphering articles to find the answer to a unique question?

Ask ChatGPT.

(note: do a tiny bit of due diligence to verify, but if the questions is binary enough this works well)

For example, having trouble figuring out the differences between all of the Google Ads bidding options? Just ask.

5.) Project and improve campaigns

Most (if not all) AI is best at math.

Because of the linear/binary nature of it - it's kind of hard for AI to get math wrong.

ChatGPT goes a layer above and can help to understand specific circumstances, such as projecting ROI with a campaign budget some metric inputs.

In this example, I asked ChatGPT for a projected ROI when the known values were:

  1. Budget: $50k
  2. CPC: $11-15
  3. Conversion rate: 2.5%
  4. Value of a lead: $256

The resulting calculation was a potential ROI of 55%-76% (i.e. not even break even)

6.) Ideate on how to improve your metrics

Following the above example, I then asked ChatGPT 'well what can I edit to make it better' (since nobody wants to LOSE Money...) and I get a list of things to try to help my campaign succeed.

NOTE: Don't sleep on #7 ??

Important to remember(!) ChatGPT is a tool, not a solution

The skeleton meme at the beginning makes it's point.

AI isn't here to take your job (yet?), but a human who properly uses AI... just might.

Learn to use it to your advantage.

Figure out how it can help you, what ideas it can give, and where it fits into your workflows.

Like anything, don't take it at face value without some double checking/editing/actual thought.

But if you're just stuck in a rut - it's the perfect wedge to help you get out.
