Unlocking Potential: Why Inclusive Employment Matters

At will&able, we don’t just provide jobs - we provide purpose, dignity and opportunity.

As a social enterprise dedicated to employing neurodiverse and differently abled individuals, we see firsthand the transformational impact of work - not just on individuals, but on families, businesses and communities.

The Reality of Employment

Neurodiverse and differently abled people remain one of the most underrepresented groups in the workforce, often overlooked due to outdated perceptions of their capabilities. However, our experience has shown us that given the opportunity, these workers thrive, contribute meaningfully and bring immense value to their teams.

At will&able, we are proud to employ an incredibly diverse workforce, with over 257 unique conditions represented. These include autism, ADHD, hearing and visual impairments and physical conditions such as cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

These individuals are often overlooked by traditional employers, yet they bring exceptional strengths to the workplace. Many of our neurodiverse team members excel at tasks that require focus, precision and repetition - offering businesses a highly efficient, detail-oriented and dedicated workforce.

The Cascading Effect of Inclusive Employment

The benefits of meaningful employment don’t stop at the individual. When someone gains a job at will&able:

·?Their confidence grows – They realise their abilities, not just their limitations.

·?Their families benefit – Financial stability increases, stress decreases, and loved ones see them thrive.

·?Their community grows stronger – Inclusion fosters connection, understanding, and a more diverse workforce.

What the Research Says: The will&able Impact

According to an independent study led by Dr. Jenny Gibb (PhD), Senior Lecturer at the University of Waikato, the impact of employment at will&able is life changing.

Before joining will&able, many employees described their days as lacking purpose or structure:

·?"I was on the benefit (social welfare). I didn't do much."

·?"I would spend a lot of time playing online games."

·?"I stayed at home. When I got up, I made macaroni, yeah. I played on the computer."

Now, their experiences have completely transformed:

·?"Yes, they have helped me find my partner, given me a real job, and made me feel valued."

·?"Just being here with my friends and my partner is great."

· "I like working here because I meet new people." ?"It makes me feel happy, and I love having a daily routine."

Beyond work, will&able fosters independence, friendships, and aspirations for the future. Employees have career ambitions, from acting to starting their own businesses. One team member shared:

· "Me and my partner are thinking we would like to own our own bakery. It would be real nice."
