Unlocking potential by overcoming codependence

Dear Founders,
Let's talk about a less known impact on the success of your company: codependence. It's not just a buzzword from self-help books; it's a real issue that can tank your startup if left unchecked.
So, what is codependence in the startup world?
It's when you're so enmeshed in your company that you can't separate your self-worth from its success, leading to many negative downstream effects. You're constantly trying to control outcomes, putting everyone else's needs before your own, and feeling responsible for everything and everyone. It's different from healthy interdependence, where you rely on others while maintaining boundaries and autonomy.
If you're nodding along, you might recognize some of these behaviors:
1. Overworking to prove your worth. You're always the first in, last out, because if you're not working 24/7, are you even a real founder?
2. Struggling to delegate. You micromanage because no one can do it as well as you, right?
3. Obsessive people-pleasing. Investors, customers, team members – you're bending over backward to make everyone happy, often at your own expense.
4. Avoiding conflict like the plague. You'd rather swallow your opinions than risk rocking the boat.
But here's the kicker: this codependence isn't just hurting you; it's hurting your startup.?Your team can't grow if you don't let them take ownership. You'll end up in decision paralysis, afraid to make a move without validation. Burnout is inevitable when you're carrying the weight of the entire company on your shoulders. And investors? They're not too keen on founders who can't build a business that can run without them.
So how do we break this cycle? It starts with self-awareness. Recognize these patterns in yourself. Then, start setting boundaries – with yourself and others. Learn to trust your team and delegate real responsibility. And embrace healthy conflict; it's how good ideas become great ones.
Building a non-codependent company culture is crucial. Encourage open communication where people feel safe sharing ideas and concerns. Foster individual ownership and accountability – let your team members take the lead on projects. Create systems and processes that don't rely solely on you. Your company should be able to function even if you take a vacation (remember those?).
You'll become a better leader, making decisions based on what's best for the company, not what will please everyone. Your relationships – both personal and professional – will improve as you learn to set healthy boundaries. And perhaps most importantly, you'll be setting your company up for sustainable growth that doesn't hinge on your constant involvement.
Remember, being a founder doesn't mean you have to do it all alone. In fact, trying to do so is a surefire way to limit your startup's potential. True strength lies in building a resilient team and a company that can thrive even when you're not in the room.
So take a step back. Breathe. Look at where you might be fostering codependence in your startup. It's okay to care deeply about your company – that passion is what got you here. However, by addressing codependence, you're not just helping yourself; you're giving your company its best shot at success.

Let this one sink in. We are not just increasing the debt burden like there is no tomorrow.. no, that debt is more and more inefficient, aka leading to actual economic output. Got Bitcoin??
And.. that's a wrap, Have a great rest to your week!
