Unlocking Peak Health: How I Transformed My Life with Targeted Nutrition

For the past 15 years, I've battled multiple autoimmune conditions, each one taking its toll on my body and mind. Then, 18 months ago, I faced yet another challenge: fibromyalgia, triggered by a prolonged bout of long COVID. It felt like my body was caught in a relentless cycle of pain, fatigue, and cognitive decline. But this isn’t a story of defeat—this is a story of transformation and hope.

Last year, in search of a solution, I made a pivotal change. I transitioned to a largely plant-based, anti-inflammatory diet and began taking test-based supplements, where I only added what my body truly needed. This approach changed everything.

Omega-3: The Game-Changer

In March, I tested my Omega-3 index and found a significant deficiency. The imbalance of Omega-3 to Omega-6 in my body was fuelling inflammation—something that 9 out of 10 of us unknowingly suffer from. I started supplementing with Omega-3, and the results were nothing short of miraculous.


My Percentage of Omega 3 Increased by 6.1% Into the Healthy Range

Within five months, my cholesterol levels dropped into the safe range, allowing me to stop taking statins after more than a decade. My chronic asthma, which had me dependent on a steroid-based inhaler, vanished as inflammation in my lungs decreased. Even more astounding, the relentless pain from fibromyalgia eased enough for me to return to the tennis court and take up a new sport: Padel.

The brain fog that had plagued me since contracting COVID began to lift. But I realised something crucial—my cognitive decline had started even before the virus hit. So when I discovered the work of Patrick Holford on brain health and learned that, despite eating my five-a-day, I likely had a vitamin B deficiency. I began supplementing with Vitamin B12 and Omega-3 to lower homocysteine levels, a known risk factor for cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s. The improvement in my mental clarity was undeniable.

I didn’t stop there. Testing revealed that I was deficient in Vitamin D3 and K2, despite living in a sunny climate. I began supplementing with these to bolster my immune system and enhance my cardiovascular and bone health.

Now, I’m preparing to test four new areas to ensure that my brain function remains sharp, my body’s methylation process is optimal, I’m processing glucose effectively, and that my body is efficiently expelling oxidants. When these systems work in harmony, our bodies can truly operate at their peak—provided we’re giving them the nutrients they need.

Why This Matters for You

So why am I sharing this with you? As professionals, we often focus on optimising our work performance but overlook the need to be as diligent about the nutrients we put into our body and the effect that has on our health-and subsequent performance. If you’re experiencing stress, burnout, depression, or any mental health issues, it’s worth examining the fundamentals. Are you giving your body the right nutrients? Are you testing before supplementing?

Think of it this way: when a tree is struggling, a tree surgeon first checks the soil and the surrounding environment to see if it’s receiving the right nutrients. We should do the same for ourselves.

Attached are my Omega-3 index test results before and after supplementation. The progress I've made isn’t just about reducing inflammation or lowering cholesterol—it's about reclaiming my life and significantly lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, some cancers, and chronic conditions like Alzheimer’s and Dementia, diseases that don't need to be taking our loved ones given the knowledge we have today and how easy it is to fix, if we want to.

It's amazing isn't it that our diet continues to poison our bodies and most doctors' suggestion is "take supplements" rather than "serve you right, eat properly"! What I love is that you have taken control, made changes and made things better, there's a lesson in here for every one of us mate.

Thanks ?? so much for sharing your truth Alex Abbott (F.ISP) … and how right you are, testing is the only solution … it baffles me how so many experts say “it’s going to be this because of a certain age etc” without any tests at all … I’m sure if more tests were run more aligned solutions would be prescribed rather than one size fits all … I’ll get off my soap ?? box now ??
