Unlocking Mission-Specific Solutions: When COTS Software Falls Short

Limitations of COTS software Time and again we’ve developed new software for clients who become disenchanted with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions. These solutions have their place but often do not meet all the needs or wants of companies and agencies. Companies can have a proliferation of COTS solutions resulting in more and more licensing agreements, multiple vendors, and systems that do not integrate, or ‘talk’, with each other. Data structures can be inaccessible and inflexible requiring each solution vendors’ technical staff to build customizations or integrations if they agree to them.
