Unlocking the Hidden Value of Industry Events

Business Development and Strategic Growth | Industry Advocate | Public Speaker
In the past month, I've been approached by several peers in our industry, all curious about my take on the value of attending conferences and industry events. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the interest in my perspective, and it made me realize how meaningful it is to be seen as a valuable resource by others. With a non-technical skillset, my desire has always been to contribute to the industry in unique and meaningful ways. My primary aspiration, my enduring legacy, lies in supporting and guiding others—a role that I find both personally and professionally fulfilling.
Being asked to share my thoughts on the value of conferences and other industry events has provided me with an opportunity for introspection, and I'd like to share my perspective.
While the immediate outcomes like sponsorships are tangible and easily quantifiable, there are numerous indirect reasons that make attending these events a valuable opportunity for both individuals and organizations.
My take on the value proposition from a purely business standpoint:
Conferences and industry events serve as invaluable sources of knowledge concerning aerospace manufacturing and suppliers. The insights acquired through these gatherings substantially bolster my expertise, elevating the depth and breadth of my knowledge. This enhanced understanding, in turn, empowers me to make more impactful contributions to my company
These events provide a platform to build relationships with industry experts and education professionals. These connections can lead to future collaborations, idea exchange, and even potential sponsorships down the line.
Participation in high-profile industry events raises our company's profile within the aerospace community. This exposure can attract future opportunities, such as invitations to speak at events, participate in panels, or contribute to publications.
Staying abreast of the latest trends and technologies in our industry is crucial for ensuring that our offerings remain relevant and engaging. Conferences often provide insights into cutting-edge developments.
Meeting suppliers and manufacturers in person can foster relationships that may lead to partnerships, collaboration on projects, and support for our company's initiatives.
Attending conferences demonstrates our commitment to the professional growth of our team, boosting their morale and showing appreciation for their contributions.
Participation in conferences can provide rich content for our company's social media channels and marketing materials, showcasing our active involvement in the aerospace community.
Interacting with other attendees might open doors for future collaborative projects, whether it's joint ventures, educational initiatives, or research partnerships.
An employees perspective:
From an employee's perspective, these events are invaluable for personal growth and professional development. Regular attendance has not only enriched my skills and knowledge but also played a crucial role in my career path. My presence at these events may have ultimately led to my position at TLG Aerospace , illustrating that what may seem like a personal benefit can also translate into gains for both the employee and the company. I feel so lucky to be in this role.
While immediate costs may seem significant, I believe the potential long-term benefits more than justify the investment. It's about planting seeds for future growth and positioning ourselves as dynamic, engaged, and knowledgeable players in the aerospace field.
Let's take a moment to acknowledge industry stalwarts like Rosemary Brester , whose unwavering commitment to these events is truly remarkable. She's a familiar face to everyone I've had the privilege of meeting, and her presence is genuinely cherished. Beyond her exceptional personality, Rosemary's consistent participation is a testament to the value of being present. It's a rare event where she isn't in attendance, and her recent recognition with a prestigious industry award further underscores the enduring benefits that extend well beyond the realm of deal-making.
Supporting our Industry partners, associations, and organizations:
While the immediate returns and personal growth aspects are crucial, there's another vital reason to attend industry events that often goes overlooked – supporting our industry organizations and associations. These entities play an instrumental role in fostering collaboration, setting standards, and advocating for the growth of our field. By participating in these events, we contribute directly to the sustenance and advancement of the industry as a whole.
Our attendance at these events provides financial support that enables these organizations to continue their essential work. Whether it's hosting informative webinars, lobbying for industry-related policies, or organizing networking events, our participation directly fuels these efforts. We become stakeholders in the progress of our industry, investing in its future.
Furthermore, our presence at these events demonstrates our commitment to the shared goals and values of these organizations. It sends a powerful message that we stand with them in their mission to drive innovation, sustainability, and excellence within our industry.
By attending industry events, we're not just attendees; we become active participants in the growth and prosperity of our field. It's a collective effort that benefits us, our organizations, and the industry as a whole and at these events, it's not just about work; it's about the incredible friendships and relationships that have flourished over the years. It doesn't feel like work when you're surrounded by friends who not only share your professional interests but also offer unwavering support in your endeavors. Because, in truth, that's precisely what they are – friends who support and uplift one another in the journey of our respective careers.
Upcoming Events:
Here's a glimpse of the events I'm slated to attend in the first half of this year. If you're planning to be at any of them, I would be thrilled to connect with you. It's a fantastic opportunity to discuss my company, showcase our capabilities, and engage with fellow industry enthusiasts. If there's an event I haven't mentioned that you believe would be valuable for me, or if you have your own recommendations, please feel free to send me a message. Your insights are honestly appreciated.
