One of the most frequent questions I get is: "How do I grow my business?" Often, the person asking is so focused on acquiring new customers that they overlook the gold within their existing customer base. This is especially true for sales and marketing executives who are driven by the directive to grow the (net new) customer base. But this narrow focus can lead to an imbalance, missing out on the potential of expanding relationships with existing customers and preventing churn. This is the essence of Path Two, Customer Base Penetration, from my book Growth IQ . In it, I shared a story about a small business with 100,000 customers that knew very little about who they were or what they had purchased in the past. Instead of leveraging this valuable information, the CEO was entirely focused on finding new customers. This is a missed opportunity!

By deepening your relationship with your current customers and expanding your share of wallet with them, you can create a strong defense against competitors and foster loyalty within your team.
