Unlocking the Future of Retail: Joint Business Planning and Retail Cities

Unlocking the Future of Retail: Joint Business Planning and Retail Cities

In the ever-evolving world of retail, imagine this scenario: You're at a grand party, sipping your favorite beverage, and there are two dance floors. One is grooving to your favorite beats, and the other is playing a totally different tune. How do you choose which dance floor to join, or do you dance to both simultaneously? That's a bit like the world of Joint Business Planning (JBP) in retail.

The What: Joint Business Planning in Retail

Joint Business Planning, or JBP, is a critical strategy in today's retail landscape. It's the synchronized dance between brands and retailers, aimed at maximizing growth and profitability. Like a perfectly choreographed ballet, JBP aligns both parties' interests, creating a harmonious partnership that benefits everyone.

The Impact: The Beverage Industry Takes a Sip

Let's zoom in on the beverage industry. Suppose you're a beverage company looking to launch a new line of eco-friendly, health-conscious drinks. In a traditional retail setting, you'd introduce these products to retailers, hoping they'd allocate shelf space.

However, in a world of Joint Business Planning, you don't just introduce your products; you collaborate with retailers to create a strategy. For example, you could work together to identify the ideal store locations based on customer demographics and preferences. This ensures your eco-friendly drinks are in front of the right audience.

The Why: The Future of Retail is Collaborative

The future of retail is here, and it's all about collaboration. As a sipper, you know that consumer behavior is constantly evolving. The way people shop, what they buy, and where they buy it is in a state of perpetual change. Retailers and brands that don't adapt risk falling behind.

Why It's Important for Beverages: Tapping into Trends

For the beverage industry, JBP offers a unique advantage. Suppose data suggests that consumers are increasingly health-conscious and looking for beverages with natural ingredients. In a Joint Business Planning approach, you can work with retailers to position your products strategically.

For instance, you might collaborate with a health-focused retailer to create an in-store promotion that highlights the health benefits of your beverages. This not only drives sales but also aligns with consumer preferences, increasing brand loyalty.

The How: Double Jointed Planning with Retail Cities

Now that we understand the "what" and "why" of JBP, let's dive into the "how." Retail Cities, the unparalleled leaders in retail thought leadership, have designed an event dedicated to helping you sync your moves and dance on both floors simultaneously.

In this months September newsletter I shared the awesome joint business planning insights from Retail Cities and how they can help your beverage business? Well, guess what? I found this amazing video where Bryan Gildenberg from Retail Cities is speaking to CNBC to give you an idea who they are! Bryan Is is a regular on this broadcast. What excites me about this group is they don’t regurgitate the news they are the news. For instance, they are predicting a billion consumers will be living in a city you never heard of. This is an untapped opportunity that has a mind-blowing $10 trillion potential in just 5 years. If you have a beverage brand and you want to tap into the opportunity check out Retail Cities! I hope to see you in Chicago later this year. #RetailCities #OpportunityKnocks https://www.cnbc.com/video/2023/07/25/tiktok-launches-e-commerce-business-as-fast-fashion-continues-to-boom.html

Sam, great insights relative to JBP's with a great partner in Retail Cities. As you point out, its important to build a JBP focused on double jointed growth. The "how" is essential to ensure retailers and suppliers are aligned on the right growth levers that ensure depletions grow at same rate as consumption. Great that your focusing your network on the right growth levers!
