Unlocking the future: Insights from WAS#18

Unlocking the future: Insights from WAS#18

WAS#18 in Sibenik, Croatia was absolutely fantastic: engaging panel discussions, quality time spent with cherished customers and friends, people deeply entrenched in the industry and fully prepared to share their invaluable experiences and insights into the latest industry trends, and of course, a series of exhilerating, spontaneous, yet thought-provoking brainstorm sessions.

Now, sharing some reflections in a more structured way:

  • Quality is now (finally) interwined with security and was at everyone's mind, which is hardly surprising, given the ever-evolving mobile landscape. Neverthless, what dominated our discussions was the astounding growth of IoT M2M traffic growth (as initially predicted, and it's fascinating to witness the accuracy of the estimation) and the impact of eSim technology. It's absolutely mesmerizing to witness how these things are shaping the industry.
  • "Security and Quality" is the core discussion when it comes to 5G SA Roaming. We, as Deutsche Telekom group, stand for security and driving the 3GPP and GSMA activities. At WAS#18, we made a major announcement together with T-Mobile USA - thatwe are ready for onboarding any 5G SA operator for roaming in production, thanks to our Hosted SEPP.
  • Even in the midst of all this ambiguity surrounding security, 5G SA Roaming remains the center of attention and continues to steal the spotlight, leaving 4G and 5G NSA security in the dust. The majority of players remain blissfully unaware of the impending threats from this angle, insisting that a mere firewall will suffice. Here is where Deutsche Telekom takes the lead and shares more details about Global Security for networks and subscribers by introducing DESS encryption for 5G NSA - because we need to be at least one step ahead of the fraudsters.

In closing, these insights from WAS#18 provide a glimpse into the dynamic world of the telecommunication industry. We eagerly anticipate the unfolding developments and await our reunion in Istanbul for WAS#19! Until then, let's keep pushing the boundaries, learning from each other, and making a mark in this ever-evolving mobile world.
