In today's fast-paced world, the concept of "smart home" has gone from a futuristic dream to an everyday reality. With the power of technology and innovation, we now have the ability to transform our living spaces into intelligent environments that adapt to our needs.

The aim of this new article is to share my experience to provide you with a recap of my hw devices that are contributing to make my house a truly smart home through the use of Home Assistant.

Let's start!

Home Assistant server

Home Assistant offers four different installation methods.

Since I already had the QNAP NAS (TS-253B), I've adopted the Container one so that Home Assistant is running H24 7/7 without having to buy a mini PC or a Rasberry.

ZWave devices

I have 19 devices overall managed through the Zwave integration. In particular:

  • Nr 1 Aeotec Zwave USB stick Gen5+ (ZW090) plugged into the NAS USB port to act as gateway for the ZWave network.
  • Nr 7 Aeotec Nano Shutter (ZW141) to control the roller shutters. Thanks to the test I've done in these months, Aeotec has delivered the FW version 3.06 that has introduced a better fine tuning for the trip time:
