Congratulations to HISTORIC SOUTH INITIATIVE Board Chair and Interim Executive Director CARL WAGNER for being recognized at the National Philanthropy Day Award Luncheon on November 13. St. John's Jesuit High School & Academy and Historic South Initiative are fortunate to have Carl Wagner involved with our organizations.

Thank you to the Greater Toledo Community Foundation and the @Walleye Wishing Well Fund for awarding the HISTORIC SOUTH INITIATIVE with a grant to support the Queen of Apostles Grade School basketball program! The Toledo Walleye Hockey Club’s Walleye Wishing Well Fund supports projects that promote children's overall fitness and wellness during the cold weather months. Today, we are announcing an important leadership transition within the Historic South Initiative. After nearly a decade of dedicated service as founder and President, Chris Amato has decided to step away from the organization to focus on his passion for education. For ten years, Chris has been instrumental in the growth and success of the Historic South Initiative and our efforts to revitalize the Old South End. We are grateful for the vision, time, and energy that Chris has contributed. While he will no longer be with us day-to-day, we know he’ll continue to make an impact in the community through his ongoing work with children and families in the Old South End. Carl Wagner, currently the HSI Board Chair, will serve as Interim Executive Director. Carl has served on the Historic South Initiative Board for four years and has a deep understanding of our mission, team, and stakeholders. Joe Cordella, who joined the organization six months ago, will serve as Vice President of Operations, supporting all day-to-day functions and helping to lead our Housing, Education, and Commercial Development programs. The Historic South Initiative is stronger than ever. We’ve seen tremendous growth in recent years and have built significant momentum that will carry us forward. As we embrace this next step in the evolution of our organization, we’re excited about what the future holds for the Old South End. We look forward to continuing our work, partnering with other organizations, and making an even bigger impact in the community.

Historic South Initiative had the honor of speaking to the American Legion of Toledo about the community development efforts, past, present and future of HSI in the Old South End. HSI proudly supports our veterans and gives first preference to veterans for our upcoming new construction housing projects.
