I'm constantly reminded of the Time and Motion study concept from industrial engineering, designed to enhance efficiency in factories, and it inspires me to continuously seek efficiency in my line of work too.
As someone making numerous outbound calls daily, I'm always on the lookout for ways to save time. Believe it or not, by integrating a VOIP solution with my ATS system, and pressing the # key on voicemails, I've managed to save around two full days per year! ??
Here's how:
1?? I used to dial numbers manually, listening to the full voicemail prompt that often included the repetition of the number and an unnecessary long list of instructions.
2?? I switched to an integrated VOIP solution that auto-dials phone numbers. My choice? RingCentral! It integrates seamlessly with my Applicant Tracking System, PCRecruiter. The RingCentral browser extension (Google Voice is another good option) has proven incredibly efficient.

3?? Here's the game-changer - as soon as the voicemail begins (which often drags on), I hit the # key. This immediately bypasses the lengthy message and instructions.
This seemingly small change results in substantial time savings. With my setup, I found that the autodialer saves 8 seconds per call, while the # key hack shaves off another 10 seconds. That's 18 seconds saved per call!
Think about it, if you make 55 calls per day, you're saving 15 minutes daily. Over a week, you've won back 1 hour and 15 minutes. Extend that across 50 weeks in a year, and you've saved over 60 hours - that's about two and a half days! ??
