Unlocking Earl Nightingale’s Secrets to Success

Here’s another secret of success I use every day.

Over 40 years ago...

I received a piece of direct mail from the world’s leading training company, Nightingale Conant.

It contained an 8 page mailing piece, a 4-page shiny brochure, a response card and a reply paid envelope.

The audio program being offered was, the seminal work of the founder of personal development, Earl Nightingale. Lead The Field.

It was available on free trial, there was no money to send and I could listen to the program and if I was happy to keep it, pay for it 30 days later.

How could I refuse? SHOW And here it is - it's got a bit wrinkly over the years, but it’s not surprising.

I’ve listen to it so many times...

Every time taking away something new.

Whilst it's a trite and hated expression, it's certainly true that it changed my life.

Just 4 year after listening to it...

I was able to sell my business for enough money to retire or at least semi-retire when I was 42. Today I want to share with you just one of the many lessons that Lead the Field contains.

It's so simple and yet so profound.

Here it is.

Earl was talking about the big mistake so many people make and as always it was in the form of a story or metaphor. He stated, “Why do so many people sit in front of an empty fireplace, expecting heat? The fireplace is empty there's no chance!

Surprisingly, we have to put the logs on before I get any heat. And there was me thinking the heat just came of its own accord.

Silly me!

Stranger still…

I still see people expecting to get results without taking the necessary actions.

Perhaps they think it will all - whatever all is, magically appear. Now they’ve seen that doesn’t work and yet they persist in this strategy. Shame really.

You and I are different…

We know the formula.

One log - a bit of warmth that soon fades.

Two logs – better chance of more heat for longer.

Loads of logs – hot, hot, hot for ages and ages!

Water on the fire – all the effort is then wasted.

And found there were fireplaces all over my life that needed more logs. I piled them on. And – no surprise - heat, results, the outcomes I wanted.

After selling my company...

I decided to get into the sharing my knowledge business and created an audio

programme. Because Nightingale Conant has been so instrumental in the amazing results I’d had, naturally, I took my new program to them.

They liked it but said it wasn't quite then target market was looking for, but I re-voice Lead The Field for the UK market.

Of course I said yes.

So, every day until I forget again, Earl Nightingale’s reminder pops into my mind and I remember to take action.

A little action, little result

Medium actions, medium results

Lots of actions, lots of results.

But, we know the key don't we, it's not just actions it's the right actions to produce the right results.

You know, I need to add this to my do list again.

Funny how good stuff is really simple isn't it.
