Have you ever walked into a room and felt like creativity was a secret language everyone spoke fluently but you??
Ever wondered if there’s a creative bone in your body, only to come up short? It’s a common narrative, but what if I told you it’s a myth? That creativity isn’t a gift bestowed upon a lucky few, but a universal trait, pulsing within each of us, waiting to be unlocked and unleashed.
Why do we box creativity into narrow definitions, confining it to the realms of art, music, and literature? What if creativity is broader, deeper, and more intrinsic to our being than we've ever imagined? Could it be that the way we perceive and engage with the world, solve problems, and interact with each other are all acts of creativity? Imagine the possibilities that could unfold if we began to see creativity not as an elusive talent but as a way of life.?
In a conversation with ?? Cynthia Morris, ?? CPCC , a luminary in the world of creative exploration, we delved into these questions and emerged with insights that challenge conventional wisdom and invite us to view creativity through a new lens.
Here are some of the gems we uncovered:?
1. Creativity is Universal, Not Exclusive
Creativity isn't an exclusive club for the 'creatively gifted.' Instead, it's a universal trait, inherent in everyone. The key question isn't "Who is creative?" but "How are you creative?"?
This shift in perspective opens up a world of possibilities, inviting each of us to explore and expand our unique blend of creativity. Whether you're strategizing in the boardroom or arranging your garden, you're engaging in a creative act. Recognizing and embracing this aspect can transform how you approach challenges and opportunities, making every day a canvas for your imagination.
2. The Role of Discomfort in Creative Innovation
Another profound insight is the relationship between discomfort and creativity. True innovation, Cynthia and I agreed, often emerges from what we initially perceive as brutally hard challenges. It's in the grappling with discomfort, the pushing beyond our perceived limits, that we find those breakthrough ideas that feel like they're being transcribed from the ether. This journey is not for the faint-hearted. It requires a blend of resilience, trust in one's vision, and the willingness to stay the course, even when the destination seems unclear. Embracing this discomfort as a catalyst for growth can revolutionize not only our creative endeavors but our approach to life's obstacles.
3. Creativity as a Way of Seeing
A vital component of creativity is perception—how we see the world around us. Cultivating a sense of wonder, approaching the familiar with fresh eyes, and being present in the moment can dramatically alter our experience of reality.?
It's about allowing ourselves to be surprised by the beauty in the mundane, the extraordinary in the ordinary. This practice not only enriches our personal experience but also fuels our creative fires, enabling us to draw connections and insights that might otherwise remain obscured.
4. Trusting the Creative Process
One of the most essential yet challenging aspects of creativity is trust—trust in the process, trust in the sometimes chaotic journey of bringing something new into being, and, most importantly, trust in oneself.?
This faith in the unseen, the not-yet-manifested-but-possible, is what propels us forward into uncharted territories. It's what allows us to lean into the uncertainty of creation, secure in the knowledge that, on the other side of doubt, lies the potential for something truly groundbreaking.
5. Life as the Ultimate Canvas
Perhaps the most impactful takeaway is the idea that life itself is the grand canvas of our creativity. Every decision, every interaction, every moment is an opportunity to express, explore, and expand our creative essence.?
When we view our lives through this lens, the possibilities become as boundless as our imagination. It's a call to action, a reminder that we are the artists of our existence, capable of infusing every day with innovation, beauty, and joy.
In our conversation, Cynthia and I journeyed through these themes, each a beacon lighting the way to a more creative, vibrant life.?

1 年We are born with ‘creativity’ , remember creating your own playthings, painting on walls , making mud pies, it is a natural and spontaneous state before we start being given ‘definitions’ of creative and thinking oh Im not Creative, when actually everything we do is creative. If we can return to that ‘open consciousness’ it doesn’t matter , replace the ‘ Iam not’ with ‘ I am’ and love (another attribute of that state) what you are doing and start to trust your intuition you may start to transform the way you see yourself and the world… and what a wonder full world it is????
