Today we will talk about one of the most popular gemstones in 2024, Spinel.

In recent years, it has emerged as one of China's most sought-after gemstones, with global demand far outstripping supply. Both gem aficionados and jewelry brands are clamoring for spinels, particularly the coveted Jedi Spinel variety renowned for its exceptional quality and mesmerizing color.

To attain such a vibrant hue, the gemstone must possess a vivid neon fluorescent shade, displaying a deep and luminous red. A superior Jedi spinel radiates an inner glow that persists even in low lighting conditions, reminiscent of neon illumination. Its distinctiveness truly sets it apart from other gemstones.

A top quality Jedi Spinel should exhibit high clarity to the naked eye, coupled with precisely proportioned cuts that enhance its brilliance and vibrant glow. Given the Jedi Spinel's rarity and escalating value, it stands as a prime gemstone for investment. The majority of high-quality spinels available today originate from Namiya and Man Sin area in Myanmar, with some also sourced from the Mogok region.

However, there's another location known as Mahenge in Tanzania, where you'll discover a plethora of hot pink spinels, albeit less fluorescent. Although relatively new in terms of origin, recent market shifts have led to growing favor among designers for incorporating these hot pink gemstones into their creations.

While spinel remained obscure for centuries, it has surged in popularity in the 21st century, emerging as one of the most sought-after colored gemstones in the market.

However, spinel isn't limited to vibrant reds and hot pinks; it spans a spectrum of other colors as well. One shade that particularly captures my interest is its icy gray metallic hue, perfect for making some sleek and edgy pieces.
