Unlocking Cannabis Relief: Insights from 50K User Sessions on Tetragram
New Frontier Data
Our mission is to inform policy and commercial activity for the global legal cannabis industry.
One of the biggest barriers a new cannabis consumer must overcome is finding the right product and dose for them. While this hurdle is present for all consumers, for those using cannabis to treat or address a medical symptom, finding the right product and dose is about more than getting the effect you want, it is about relieving pain or anxiety, improving sleep, and impacting quality of life. Most doctors will not discuss cannabis with their patients. The reasons range from the legal status to the lack to FDA approval, stigma and just not having enough knowledge about cannabis to feel competent in making recommendations. This has left medical cannabis consumers on their own to determine how to best use cannabis to improve their health.
To support this journey, Tetragram, founded by Otha Smith, allows consumers to track their cannabis use and the impact that different products and doses have on their symptoms. Bringing a personalized approach to cannabis as medicine, Tetragram is a crucial tool in a market that can be unreliable and with a plant that can have a multitude of effects dependent on dose and method of ingestion. But what methods and products are Tetragram users finding most beneficial for their specific needs? To answer these questions, we analyzed data from over 50K sessions logged in Tetragram. We looked at sessions from people treating pain, anxiety, agitation, insomnia and using cannabis for relaxation. What we found is that the preferred method of ingestion and most useful products varied based on the condition. In our new research brief, we review these results and provide context for why various symptoms may require different approaches.
Part of meeting consumer needs, medical or adult use, is understanding the motivations behind their use and why certain product types or cannabinoids increase the chances of relief. For consumers, Tetragram is a valuable tool for establishing a successful cannabis protocol. For the industry, insights from Tetragram are a valuable tool for understanding how to meet consumer needs.
