Unlock the power of unity transform Your team’s Voice into a symphony of success But whats that got to do with SoCs, SaaS and Stories?

At 26 (a long time ago...), I dove headfirst into the deep end as a team lead at one of the world's top tech giants,

commanding a diverse 46-member squad across continents.

from Darmstadt's quaint streets to the bustling hubs of Asia and America.

Imagine a young leader, navigating the intricate maze of languages and IT jargon

Jargon - almost our love language in Info Tech, but it doesn't make it easy to love us (product or service)
Jargon - almost our love language in Info Tech

This wasn't just a job;

it was an exhilarating journey of growth, challenges, and eye-opening global adventures.

  • Loved the people

  • Loved the challenge

  • But eventually the travel even got me too At the end I spoke more often to the head of internal Amex Travel than "my wife" (not good)

But whats that got to do with SoCs, SaaS and Stories?

My team and I wrestled with a unique beast: language barriers within technology. Imagine juggling

German, English, Spanish, and a host of other languages and on top add grappling with IT acronyms

That meant different things to different people.

We stumbled, faltered, and learned.

Our turning point?

Embracing internal marketing to forge a common language.

This strategy wasn’t just about tech speak;

it was about creating a bridge across our diverse team.

Take, for example, a SoC in IT. To us, it’s a 'security operations centre',

but to the outside world, it’s just a 'sock'.

This simple misunderstanding symbolises our broader challenge.

Even in my giant tech firm, confusion reigned supreme.

It's just a soc

If our own tech experts were baffled, what hope did our clients have?

I remember visiting Glasgow, where 'Posh English' was a necessity for mutual understanding.

It was a striking metaphor for our situation. In IT, our acronyms might as well have been a foreign dialect.

Storytelling in IT isn’t about flaunting our technical prowess;

it was about accessibility and connection.

This realisation hit me hard recently when

Birmingham City Council faced a financial debacle with their IT transformation initiative

Birmingham City Council 100 million GBP Orcale bill 4 x projected cost and the payments system still does not work and the council IT 'transformation' has failed, the council, brankrupt
BBC Report on Birmingham Coity Council

So when we hand out ouf shiny broschures and technical presentations its all about as clear as a black box to everyone else stories we've been using those since we sat around a campfire for the very first time

It wasn’t about the technology failing; it was about communication breaking down.

Now, as we stand at the brink of an AI revolution, the question looms large:

How do we adapt?

How do we adapt?

How do we use AI not as a tool alone but as a medium to tell our stories better, to make our services more approachable?

My 'Tech Business Brand in a Box' program embodies this change. It’s about transforming complex Info Tech jargon into stories that resonate with everyone

It’s about aligning our messages so that whether you’re in

- sales

- marketing,

- customer success

You’re speaking a language that everyone understands

And we wonder why sales cycles are so cumbersome, slow, full of friction and fraught ...

Not just for us the people on the inside

Honestly we hire ourselves translators

Highly skilled, highly paid people called

- pre-sales

- technical account managers

- technical service delivery managers

- technical account managers

and the list goes on

And its not to say they don't have a role but if we had attracted the right fit cusotmers for us and then provided easily understanable narratives to understand the ROI can be I'm sure you've never heard of them Apple?

Why because in Info Tech our stories .... usually .... suck .....

  • All left brain

  • All binary

  • All logic

  • All Numbers

It's either 1 or 0 and why can't those people understand its simple...to us

For a prospect, client or customer

Imagine how they feel?

And they don't tell us because they are smart people

And don't want to appear dumb

Imagine how they feel?

This is not about enhancing business communication.

It’s about redefining it for a world intertwined with technology.

  • And that could apply to any industry
  • That has technical experts, we assume everyone understands what we know.
  • Everyone does "get it" but there are over 8 billion people on planet earth with different - lives - choices - circumstances are all unique to that one person

  • We "the others" are in fact NPCs (non player characters) in their world until they need IT services or products

Many business owners are Very scared as the costs in time or in money can be "business fatal"

"Are you ready to embrace this change?"
