Unlock 2024 Digital Trends: Insights on Consumer Behaviour, E-commerce Growth, and Social Networking in Ireland
According to recent data from the Central Statistics Office, email and searching for goods and services were the leading internet activities in Ireland during the first half of 2024. The Household Digital Consumer Behaviour 2024 Report highlights that internet banking and instant messaging closely followed as the next most common online activities.
Shopping for clothes, shoes, and accessories remained the top items purchased online. However, the report revealed a significant gender difference: 86% of women bought these items online compared to 68% of men. Men were more inclined to purchase sports equipment through the internet.
Social networking usage also saw growth, with nearly 75% of internet users engaging with platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok. This marked a slight increase compared to the previous year. Among younger individuals, aged 16 to 29, social media usage was even more prevalent, with 95% using some form of social networking.
